Well, Im listening to St. Anger right now...

not linkin park, BUT DEFINITELY KORN AND MUDVAYNE

look at that opening riff for St Anger, THAT is korn, PURELY...and that riff is sprinkled throughout the song

I hear plenty of mudvayne type of shit in ALL WITHIN MY HANDS, and some other tunes which I will not torture myself by listening to again

Not for the masses, I was on the bus to school on friday, I saw a guy open his bag with limp biscuit, korn and deftones cds, and right from the middle he picked up St Anger and put it in his CD player

not for the masses? my ass

I think everybody is getting caught up in the whole image fiasco here... like if you like St anger then there is no way possible that you can call yourself a "metalhead". Reality check fuckers, I like Deftones and Mudvayne and don't mind the odd Slipknot (that surfacing song is cool) but I also like a lot of shit 99.5% of the masses would have never heard of. I don't give a FLYING FUCK about what ppl think of my music, I listen to whatever the fuck I like. Whether it be fuckin Dyin Fetus and Decapitated or Deftones and Metallica I like em all.

Now on teh subject of St. anger, I think everybody who is hearing three seconds of the album adn then writing it off can go commit suicide. The truth is, as with all great albums (no I'm not fuckin saying this is one of those) it takes a few (a fair few) listens before you click with what is happenin here. It's a strange album in that it seems to change the more you listen to it, but it sure as hell isn't that impressive on face value. Like when I first heard Frantic... that piss-poor fucker of an intro... i was ready to give up right then and there but alas I persisted and I must admit I'm finding a fair bit of stuff to like in this album.

So don't critiscise ppl if they happen to enjoy this album, everybody is entitled to their own tastes and opinions.

Solid post. I totally agree. I still get the feeling as though some of the people here have only listened to it once or not even in its entirety and then called down the hammer of justice.

I anything, All Within my Hands has ONE part that sounds a bit like Tool, but Mudvayne?! There is not one shred of Linkin Park, Mudvayne or KoRn on this album. Get a clue and actually listen to the album. Also just because a kid has all of those albums in his/her cd holder and also has St. Anger does not mean that it resembles those albums/that genre. If I have a Harry Connick cd and a Soilwork, for example, cd together in my cd holder they sound the same too right? And obviously because Harry Connick has sold tons of records, Soilwork must be appealing to the masses as well? Your logic is horrid.

I always love when the arguments turn to the above pictures, my personal favorite is the picture of the retarded person running in the special Olympics with the caption, "Arguing over the Internet is like running in the Special Olympics, you may win, but you are still retarded." When the posting of such pictures starts I know the person has lost all arguments.

Again I totally agree with the post above. Solid stuff man.

I listened to it about....4 or 5 times since last Monday.

There is not one shred of Linkin Park, Mudvayne or KoRn on this album.
Wrong!

Get a clue and actually listen to the album.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
YOU COMPLETELY MISREAD THE POINT!!!!
You're ability to read and comprehend is horrid.
I said they were trying to appeal to he masses (in "heavier" music), the masses like limp biscuit, linkin park, korn and mudvayne fans.
Apparently, they've succeeded.
Understand?

Unfortunately you're too dumb to realize that *gasp* noone who was arguing posted those pics.

Based, influenced, quit waxing semantics retard. Lets have a grammar contest. In any event, how can you say that they were never influenced by NWOBHM?!?!?! Maiden, Diamond Head? You might even stick Priest in there. Euro/UK metal was what they were listening to fool.

this is funny because...

The word, as unbelievable as it may sound today, would probably be "influenced". They were influenced by NWOBHM.

And ofcourse you wouldn't like anything Metallica put out because you are still crying about how they bet"w"ayed you....keep crying to mommy. I still have my doubts as to whether you have even listened to this album.

Not me, metal and their fans, that's who I said they betrayed.

I still have my doubts as to wether or not you have a fucking brain, jesus..

Yeah, nu metal in "some" places. Like perhaps a total of 2 minutes on a near 80 minute album.

Also, Retard...ed Penguin, I think you seem to missing most of my points. I don't care what you post about listening to it multiple times, I still have my doubts and I will continue to as there is really no semblence of Linkin Park, Mudvayne or Korn on this record. Metallica has always been riff drive since the Black Album, and St. Anger is no different. They aren't trying to appeal to anyone on this record. I could accept that argument with Load and ReLoad (which imo both blow goats), but this record is way too heavy, muddy, and loud to appeal to nu metal crowds. Other than Some Kind of Monster I can't think of a chorus that has really stuck with me. There are virtually no hooks on the album either, and when I find one it is extremely subtle. Also where is the rapping? Where is the un-ending, non-stop open riff? Where is the turn table? Also, if you actually have the album, which I still doubt, watch the DvD and tell me those performances aren't metal.

I wanted to hate this album as much as the next guy, but it's solid, and I won't bring myself to bash it just because I feel like Metallica let down metal and its fans in general with the Load-era. If you don't like it fine, but to say that it sounds like (and is meant to appeal to the likes of) Linkin park, Mudvayne or Korn is rather ridiculous. Get your head out of your ass.
