........what albums I've listened to and about ones that I consider perfect in every way - songwriting, production, performance, that little something extra that makes an album stick in your head for days if not years?
................you can take the time the album was released into consideration.
.....
These are from the impact I remember on hearing them at their release time: (in no order)
Metallica - ...and Justice for all. ("There's a song called One that goes for 7 minutes with sound effects", my mate said at the time, haha.)
Sepultura - Arise. Straight-up Thrash. Brutal.
Death - Spiritual Healing. I still remember counting the number of riff changes in the Title-track. Flanger or Phaser, what was that sound? I remember talking about James Murphy being the best metal guitarist in USA at the time.
Megadeth - Rust in Peace. Apart from Poison was the Cure. Mustaine at his breaking-point.
Obituary - Cause of Death. James Murphy again. No I didn't like all the album (maybe I was scared, haha), but the sheer brutality of it was amazing at the time. "Chopped in half, feel the blood spill from your mooouuuttthhh!"
Cannibal Corpse - The Bleeding. Hadn't heard anything like that before. "Staring through the eyes of the dead" is still awesome.
Deicide - Deicide. ALL brutal, ALL perfect. "White alert, white alert, the mercenaries are here......."
Slayer - Reign in Blood. Start to finish, unrelentless.
All time-relevant for me. I appreciate some more modern releases, it's just that these ones had such a huge impact at the time. Back then, you had to be quite good to get a record deal.
I can't imagine a more modern release having such an impact nowadays.....or, I am just old now.
Sorry for the ramble.
