What is your biggest musical guilty pleasure?

Great thread...

I'm not guilty about these, but these are probably unexpected from an Opeth fan:

Kenny Rogers
Bon Jovi's "Slippery When Wet"
Ben Folds
Elton John
Billy Joel
Joe Cocker
Los Lonely Boys
Foreigner
Norah Jones
Toto
Whitesnake
NICE

Love Hate tragedy is probs better IMO....but then I haven't really listened to any of the albums aside from infest, which i was into right after its release years ago.

Yeah, i like Papa Roach as well. Didnt get into GAWM. Maybe i'll give it another shot.
Linkin Park (I know, i know. Thats like the ultimate in guiltiness, but like blimey said i really liked them when i was first getting into music, i dont listen to them at all really anymore.)
The Offspring (a couple of albums)
And some other crappy metalcore bands, which have like one catchy song.

Well I dont know if I feel guitly about them, but here goes:

- Madonna
- some Kylie
- David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust
- Delta Goodrem
- Lemonheads
- Juliana Hatfield
- misc 60s & 70s German porn music (yes, really)
- Jethro Tull
- Joy Division/New Order
- The Smiths
- Jesus Jones
- Oasis
- (early) Blur, everything post "The Great Escape" is boring
- The Jam
- Style Council
- Stone Roses
- Spandeu Ballet
- Duran Duran
- Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry
- The Bangles
- Genesis
- Rush
- REM (especially the earlier stuff, RULES!)
- Peter Paul & Mary
- Wings
- Hummingbirds
- Ratcat
- Smudge
- Daisygrinders
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
- Ste Colombe
- Jean-Baptiste Lully
- Francois Couperin
- Johann Sebastian Bach
- Johann Christoph Bach
- Marin Marais
- Georg Frideric Handel
- Claudio Monteverdi

- TONNES of early 90s house (I hate almost all electronica post-2000). Old skool house RULES!!!
- 70s Disco (and Im not talking fucking Village People, Im talking the REAL stuff Larry levan used to play at the Paradise Garage.. Chaka Khan, Cher, etc. Awesome!)

... and the list goes on. Too many to mention!

Fuck NO. KMFDM are just weird industrial-synth pop.

Aren't they MDFMK these days? Apparently it has something to do with Raymond Watts?

nope, thats what the new band was called when they broke up. had one album, then KMFDM came back. Raymond watts I think started MDFMK, but KMFDM is back. I dont really like them that much, just WWIII and some of Nihil. CRAZY VIDEOS though, I can't watch too many or I get dizzy!

what does it sound like?

I should burn some for you and send it over!

Think of... the racier songs in later Elvis films meets earlier funk. Raw guitars, "thick" keywork, beautiful "LSD" vocals and some occasionally intensive "Jimi Hendrix Exeprience" style drumming.

It's actually pretty good music if you look past the cheese factor of some of vocals! I quite enjoy it.

I love porn music too! ... ... ... :erk:

I was tentative in replying to this post when it was first written because I really couldn't think of any band or artist that I feel genuinely guilty listening to...

I just remembered a band, never really admit it, but I love Berlin ("The Metro" "No More Words" "Take My Breath Away"). I wouldn't say that I feel guilty listening to them, it's just that to the people who know me, it can be quite unexpected.

I saw them live tonight. Terri Nunn kicks ass!!:worship:

A few other bands that I dig, that may be unexpected (in an opeth fan):
Sisters of Mercy (I'm not goth, I don't like most goth, but this is a pretty good band)
Devo (they kick ass live too)
Journey (all my husband's fault)
Tori Amos (you have no idea how much I love this woman)
Regina Spektor
Lunachicks
Patsy Cline
Johnny Cash
Tito and Tarantula (extra points to whoever knows who the hell these guys are!)
Stevie Ray Vaughn (bow down before the master!)

... and a ton of old Punk. I used to be a total old school punker (D.I., T.S.O.L., Suicidal Tendencies, old Misfits, The Business, Naked Aggression, X, old Bad Religion, The Exploited, The Descendents, etc.)

I also listent to a lot of Pain (Peter Tagtgren of Hypocrisy's side project).

lastly, I really like the song "Cry Me A River" by Justin Timberlake, just the song, the rest of his stuff is not my cup of tea...

there, I typed it... get all the skeletons out of the closet...

The only ones that cause me to feel even a twinge of guilt are Coldplay and Franz Ferdinand, but fuck it, who cares, they make me happy :p

I think most of you misunderstood the thread. It's not a guilty pleasure if other people who are more interessted in music then your average MTV watcher don't like it. To be a guilty pleasure you must actually feel guilt(for liking it) when you listen to the music.

Well in that case there's nothing, like i said, if you'd asked me this time last year i wouldn't have admitted loads of music i like, but now i just listen to what i like and i don't care what anyone elses opinion on it is.

*listens to Backstreet Boys*

And i have another, i bloody love Duran Duran.

Oops. Then I don't feel guilty about anyhting, unless I'm listening to one of my few burnt cd's.

In fact, I think I'd feel more guilty listeing to all this heavy music and it's "noise" than to the mainstream stuff I listen to.

In that case I'm gonna admit that I like Enrique Iglesias... :loco:
