What other GMDers influenced your music taste the most?

In all seriousness, I consider literally every person who has been here for a decent amount of time and claims that nobody else here has ever influenced their music taste to be completely dishonest.

I don't have a specific person who influenced me. It's been so long since I joined that I couldn't pinpoint specific people.

That's not the same thing, since I'm sure that you're not claiming that nobody influenced you at all.

Based off of a post that I saw by you not that long ago, @audiophileguy or whatever his name was seems to have recommended you a lot of music and also hooked you up quite a bit.

Fair point. He's the only person I could think of really. Others have influenced me, but I just don't know who specifically unless I search rec threads I started.

A lot of it is going based off what several other people list in 'Top albums of the year' lists and the like. So it's probably more like dozens of people based on using that information

I used to IM with Vimana, JAGE, and a few others back in 08/09, but I don't think we talked about music. I didn't really ask for recommendations, but I used to search the threads on the (now dead) recommendations board and the genre threads on GMD.

I don't think any of you cock gobblers listed Rumpole, which is a shame. And Jean-Pierre, former Borrowed Time and now Funeral Circle vocalist used to post on here.

Rumpole has recommended alot of bands to me, and Jean-Pierre made me check out Paul Chain and the Italian doom scene so he rules.

I find there to be a difference between being shown a new band by someone and having your taste influenced. Like everyone knows I'm into stoner shit. If someone shows me a stoner band I haven't heard of, it's not really influencing my taste, it's catering to it.

I guess phylactery would qualify in that he showed me a dark throne song I didn't hate, and I totally hate them, so now my taste involves vague appreciation of the least popular dark throne material.

I agree with that. I already knew the sort of stuff I liked when I joined, I've just been introduced to new bands within those genres.

I joined mainly to explore trad/heavy/power metal more than I have in the past. I have done to some extent, but I'm still so enamoured with black, death and to a lesser extent doom metal that they still make up the majority of my listening.

I'd say that the least popular Darkthrone stuff is their "mid period" stuff like Hate Them and Plaguewielder. I rarely see those mentioned.

Nobody unfortunately. I've discovered a few new bands but they were all within the realm of shit I already like anyways.

I sometimes lurk the "Metal (current year)" thread for interesting album covers/ vid stills and check them out.

Didn't I show you Ne Obliviscaris or something?

oh and Blues Pills

Why? I have zero reason to be dishonest. I'm happy to give credit where it's due. Krow put me onto Gaza and I found a few other bands through liking that band but I don't think my taste has been influenced because of it.

I will always be grateful to this board for introducing me to Saint Vitus, which although often overrated, irrefutably is a great band. I've also got to know about Neurosis here, which is like my third love. I could mention tons of other bands but one thing is certain - some people here listen to tasty metal. One minus for the guy who posted a band called Drown in Solitude, I still hope that was a joke! What a shit that was, geez.
