What will be the next big thing in metal?

I follow Behemoth since their first album, it has always been Black Metal. With some Death Metal stuff in it for maybe 2 or 3 albums. Some people call it Blackened Death or Death/Black, why not ?
But the lyrics, the music, the artwork, the atmosphere, their clips, all seems to be closer to Black Metal than to Death Metal.
Anyway, Behemoth is not the next big thing...

Djent already to an extent is the new trendy thing. I hear it more and more in radio songs - soon that's allt he new bands are going to be clones of.

I think more doomy sludgy stuff may find it's way to the forefront. Some of the bands that harken back to more 70s metal.

+1 to wanting singing to make a comeback, BUT NOT THAT FUCKING OPERATIC SHIT.

Seriously, if there's anything that makes me REALLY hate metal, it's the 14 year old kids that go to Opeth shows wearing Folk Metal band shirts and people who listen to nothing but cock-rock and stuff with that awful screechy vocal style people like to call singing.
I wanna see more vocalists who can REALLY sing do stuff within the metal genre.
Jeff Buckley vocals over Djent, I could really dig that.
Joni Mitchell over Nile tracks, yeahhh.

No i was serial that shit is catchy as fuck:headbang:

I really hope not, power-metal singing should be ambushed beside some lonely dockland warehouse, beaten unconscious with a blackjack, bundled into a Ford Sierra and mysteriously 'disappear'. Everyone will rejoice as they can finally venture back onto the internet and into independent record shops without being subjected to spandex cock-metal.

HAHAHAhahahaahahhaa, brilliant, and well said James

out of curiousity, what are you considering to be "power metal"

If Katy Perry came out with a metal album I would absolutely die.

PopMetal FTW.

Is she the one that sings in bad english? Whenever I hear her (and Lily Allen) my head goes crazy correcting all their bad pronunciation and 'course vowels'. Those girls need to go to some elocution and deportment lessons.

Dragonforce came to mind intially, but stuff like Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, that god-awful singer from Dream Theater, some of the 'other' Folk Metal bands. Whenever I think of Folk metal Agalloch and Drudkh conveniently comes to mind, whilst I simultaneously try to ignore Korkiplanniaiiaiiniiiiianiigi, Finntroll and all that jazz (not jazz).

Man I'm being a bit of a hater these past few days, apologies to all the My Dying Bride and Power Metal fans.

I agree though that Djent seems to be on the rise, as does the Sludge/Ambient/Post-Metal amalgamation, which is cool.

I just wish there was something as epic as queen out there that can totally blow my mind again..

I know some queens who are into blowing things ....
Just kidding, Bobby.

This is actually an interesting topic (IMHO).
Granted - I am not exactly "Metal" .... I'm more like Aluminum Foil.
