What will be the next big thing in metal?

I predict:

djent will be turned into a some form of trendy music, just like how all of the trendy "hardcore/deathcore" bands of 2000 spawned from good death metal and melodic death metal bands from the 90's.

btw: i would love to see singing vocals get popular in metal, especially in the style of symphony x, sonata arctica, and iced earth.

Well I think Djent is already the new nu-metal, every metal band is going into that route... my band refuses to use 7 strings just to avoid that trendy route everyone is taking... we play in C, it's already heavy enough... so no need to go even lower like everyone else. But yeah, Djent will be the next "big" thing I think.. Although I have to admit, I do enjoy when done with taste... I just got the new Bring me the Horizon album (in a not so legal way, just to check it out) and here's another example of a band going into the Djent route combining the typical british accent screamo voice... like he's yelling while someone is sticking a stick in his a-hole... from the whole album I was managed to enjoy one song, production seems nice... but the song writing is just god awful...

Architects seem to go through that route as well, but their last album was done with waaayy more class than Bring me The Horizon...

the new bring me the horizon is more like bury your dead tbh. anywho. i think it will be more poppier and atmospheric then djenty, but still djenty you know likei siad, djent + a day to remember + meshuggah + white chapel + deftones

that will be the new thing

music is all around in circles, what was once a trend will be again a trend somewhere in time, added with something more......it´s a cycle
as for now i reaaly dont´t care because i´m stuck in the mid 80 till end of the 90´s music...call me what u will

the next "new" thing will be something we have never heard about. not djent, or whatever is already going on now.

I think maybe pop / rock could meld with br00tal to form a new mainstream genre. as for metal, there are so many subgenres already, they will just increase as more and more genres are mixed.

but when will a new genre evolve? something different than metal.

a big +1 to the guys who mentioned katy perry and lady gaga! I think their song writing is fresh and new! and so infectious! I`m not even ashamed to admit that that is some of the best songwriting i`ve heard in years!

I honestly think "Happy" will be the next theme of Metal.
Metal was formed because people where pissed of at the world, and wanted to express it.. but then people got tired of being pissed of all the time, and that was when the 80's came and made everything happy.
But in the early 90's people started to get pissed of at having to be happy all the time, so they started to express how pissed they where etc.

I would really like Death Metal to come more popular, not in a mainstream way, just more popular or to get the attention it deserves, i would like the Death Metal from the 90`s to come back in a renovated form, with modern productions and stuff, Pestilence are doing it well, i would like to see some Technical Death Metal, i mean like Death or Disincarnate, Cancer Etc., music that is awesome and has a lot of potential to resurrect in a fresh way, as i said not to be mainstream (because everything mainstream is basically one model or style for the bands to follow, so everyone has the same sound, the same look, their logos looks the same, etc. and that`s not cool) and as we all know all trends tends to go down, then they sound wasted, everytime i listen to Individual Thought Patterns or The sound of perseverance, it`s like i were listening for the first time, i showed those good records to young kids and they Fucking LOVED it, so it has the potential to become more popular for the young audiences, it only need to be promoted.

Aye
Quality doesn't dictate how much music is listened to, marketing does.
Quality dictates the appreciation though, no amount of marketing will change that, but maybe a bigger marketing push would make said quality music appreciated by more people, and I'm all for that.

My old band did a Crystal Mountain cover at one of our college gigs and the first year nu-metallers fucking loved it, the next day we come into college and they're all rocking symbolic, and loving the fuck out of it.

Says it all.

Totally agreed!

And on the second thing, it always happens, and what a fucking great song, i think almost all Death songs are super catchy, one of the more important things of popular music.

I think the next big thing is probably going to be based around an early 90's nostalgia. Right now, i see the bigger bands (like mastodon) moving towards a more melodic, raw sound. I would bet my money on that.

The next big thing in Metal will be Probotector's penis :

IT'S ALL GOING BACKWARDS!

I'm sure they'll be more and more records like Reign in Blood and all the other classics - music and production-wise.

OR

A fusion with avant-prog - lots of those Mike Patton scene type bands are already well into metal... mainly hardcore... but it's only a matter of time before we start hearing thousands of bands that sound like Mr. Bungle with 5150 and triggered drums... that is my prediction.

OR

People just getting sick of listening to the same and start listening to different things.

OR

People like me who mainly goes back to the old stuff and occasionally discovers a new once or twice a year...
