Johnny Cash just covered a Nine Inch Nails tune titled "Hurt" and I bet he is in his 70's. That has to take balls the size of watermelons. There are some "real" folk based country artists out there with something to say. Willie Nelson (while he can't sing for shit) can play the shit out of an acoustic guitar as well. I personally am not a fan of country music, but their are some real artists out there in the genre.
Unfortunately the new "modern country" is absolutely the best example of watered down pop music. The "industry" finds good looking guys and girls that can sing fair, throws cowboy hats on them and gives them songs written by someone else to perform. Artists should have something to say, even if they are doing little more than condensing books (common with some metal bands) or bitching about law enforcement (common with rap.) The "modern" country artists are just barely above Milli-Vanilli or however you spell it.

....are you refering to me?

look, i dont want to start a fight with you, so if you have anthing else to say, make it clear as to who you are directing your statement. Since when was it a crime not to like country? i even thanked you for your reconmendations as a nice way of saying that i do not like country. There is a difference between ignorance and a polite rejection due to different taste in music.....

.....if i was ignorant i would have said F*** you, but that is not what I did because i have class, and i respect you for your different taste...

...but then to go and call me ignorant, im sorry if i have offended you, but in no way did i feel that what i posted was in any way ignorant.

-my appologies to you if you are offended in anyway by what i said, i just wanted to state my opinion, and i am truley sorry if you are offended.

Umm... I was obviously referring to the guy above me who has an avatar from Trigun and his title states that he is a character from Trigun. Sorry to burst your bubble pal.

Well put, Bryant.
btw, Bad Religion fucking owns!
I just had to throw that in there since they came up earlier in the thread. :D

Jap Rap :tickled: Have you seen Blade the movie? They have these jap girls rapping, the funnyist thing I ever heard in my life. Had me rolling so for that, for one song once in a while can be entertaining in a comedy kinda way.

Eww. I am feeling naucious. Jap girl rap? The Japanese in pop music are trying so hard to imitate American pop culture. It's just pathetic man. That Blade movie also had a Papa Roach song in there somewhere I heard. This pop punk kid was talking about how much that song is so awesome in that movie. People who made that music has the shittiest taste in music.

I picked rap, mainly because of the fools like Durst and so on. Prior to these bands being on the radio every two minutes I was pretty unaware of any rap. I don't dislike any genre of music, but there are some that I don't listen to simply because it's not my taste. But I will absolutely admit to liking Ice T way back, and that guy who wrote Funky Cold Medina and some Run DMC. I also like some trance music. Yep I do. Not all night as it gets repetitive and I certainly won't make the mistake of going to see anay band that has no instruments again - like Covenant with their Dat mmachine, Infected Mushrooms (trance band) or VNV Nation (while good they were boring as hell).

There is a big difference between rap and hip hop, I can't articulate exacly what it is but my son sings hip hop stuff and he educated me as to the difference and since he listens to this 100 percent more than I do, I would not question his judgement.

Country music has some great examples of good acts/bands - Willie Nelson being one, Wilco might be considered close to country. Fred Drake... Marshal Tucker Band... a bunch more. I'm not much of a country fan at all but I do know there is some talent there.

Honestly, out of all the genres I think the worst offender is the blasphamey called 'nu-metal'. Flame away if you must, but this nu-metal stuff is the worst music ever. I repeat ever in the history of rock and roll. For many, many reasons.

I'm going on a bit of a rant here but I've heard a few people say stoner rock was overloaded with bands so they were going to try something 'new'. Guess what that something new was? Well of course, the crap force fed us on the radio. Dude that is so not new! If you are going to change directions don't BS us with the 'new' crap as it really is just a way to get mainstream popularity.

Oh how much I respect those that stay true to their talents.

No genres are all bad. There is shit in every genre that gives a certain genre a bad name, and it's usually the shit that gets the publicity. Idiots don't even try to search for other material in that genre. They pass it off, and make ignorant comments about it. It's not an opinion when people have no idea what they are talking about. People should learn the difference between ignorance and opinion. That way, they will not make an ass of themself.

I agree there is good music in different genres and we tend to judge bands unfairly based on what particular genre they are in. But I prefer heavy metal as my music genre of choice. A lot of times it's because we might not know that genre very well. Non-metallers might view heavy metal as shitty music because all it's about is satans, drugs, sex, violence etc etc which we all know that those are just stereotypes. But some genres are just pure shit or they're made as jokes. Pornogrind is a good example of this.

But pornogrind isn't a genre, it's a sub-sub-sub-genre, so it's completely exempt. The main genre is punk, which could be construed as a subgenre of rock, but even if you don't do that it is still idiocy to say that all punk is worthless.

The same for this UK Garage. By the title, I assume it is a style of electronic music. Of course, electronic music has numerable positive qualities, and certain styles are wonderful.

I think that you all need to reevaluate your ideas of genres. Certainly, specific subgenres can contain an almost complete content of shit, but the parent genre of which they are a child will certainly contain something of worth.
