2002. I bought the double CD edition of Blackwater Park after hearing an mp3 of Harvest. Deliverence came out about three months later.

I got into them in 2002. I had heard of them, but at that time, I usually avoided songs that were longer than 5 or so minutes.

2006, i think. i mainly listened to jazz and a little bit of rock but never into metal or extreme metal. anyways, i bought still life from the store because i thought the cover was cool and some of my friends were telling me they were good (they had acoustic guitar phrases.) I think the first track i heard was benighted, and i loved it, although i didnt really enjoy any of the heavier parts or the growling until a while later, and now theyve grown on me (even though my favourite tracks are the soft ones.)

although im still not a big fan of the more extreme varieties of metal i think i should credit opeth for opening my eyes to that sort of genre. to this day benighted is still one of my favourite songs to play/listen to.
