Why are lyrics always in English?

I want the world to have a universal language. I think it's a good thing and I see no reason in being stubborn about it and trying to divide the world up even more than it already is. I don't care what language it is, as long as one language is the official world language, and it just happens to be english in our time. Therefore, I believe that people choose english so they can reach out to as many as possible. No point in expressing your deepest feelings in a language that is spoken by 200 people in an african village when you can do it in a language that is spoken/understood by 1/5 of the world.

I agree 100%, and I'm glad I didn't have to be the one to say it! (cuz then I'd get shat upon for being a boorish imperialistic American :Smug: )

30% of the world speak English and we're the fuckers who buy the records lol. Give it a few years though, as you know America is set to become predominantly spanish speaking eventually so we'll see what language takes over then :p

I dread that day lol. I failed Spanish 2 times. Then took 5 years of German and always got A's :err:

NWO Agent?? haha

I don´t like how spanish sounds in gutural voices, but there are a few bands here that made it well, in clean vocal is cool, but i like it in english a lot more.

im Spanish but...i spend the entire day reading and watching tv shows in english...i like the lenguage
but i think its a really "easy" lenguage to learn... just compare the verbs in english and then look at the verbs in spanish (for example)
its 30 times more difficult...

i think thats the reason all the people write lyrics in english ...its an "easy" language you can learn fast (no offense).
if the reason was the people who speak that lenguage...i think chinese beats english in that matter...

i really like hearing music in other lenguages :
japanese, finnish (good i love finnish>.<), german , latin , etc...

I speak spanish too and for me lyrics feel better in English mostly because most of the metal I hear is in English too. I grew up listening to Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, etc. If metal had been born in Italy and most metal bands were from Italy then maybe Italian would be the lang of choice to sing metal :-P just as it is for Opera.

+1 , FinnTroll in English wouldn't be FinnTroll , besides, Spanish can sound cool but most of the times sucks when used in the typical heavy metal bands like Mago de OZ and Saratoga (no offense)

I read an interview with Lacuna Coil once, and they said they write their songs in English because it's easier to express what they have to say in the English language. Might be the same for other languages too.

That concerns me. English is the newest of languages I suspect and it would seem to me that the oldest language would be more evolved/expanded by this point...

That's funny, cause some of my favorite songs they have are the ones in Italian haha.

I have no F'n idea what Lacuna Coil is singing about on their Italian language songs but I like them more than the English songs too for the most part.

I will kneel at the Chipotle alter and bow my head but I think the reason behind Spanish becoming the dominant language in the USA is totally dumb.
What's more disturbing is that when I think of other languages and the history behind the people that devised them, like the Japanese/Chinese, I can't help but perceive of the English language in terms of ...

In the end folk, the simple truth is...
Whitey is to blame

Howard Johnson is right.

As long as it's mine I won't have you shot for treason.

Yes, treason. It doesn't matter that you're not American... we pretty much just let that word mean whatever we want these days.

But, hell, no Spanish, FFS!

I really hate how does Spanish sound for Metal music. That's why I always listen to music in English

And I hate music in Swedish! Well most of it that is.. there's so much junk and it just sounds lifeless.

Swedish hip hop can be quite awesome though, especially the 90s stuff with the band "Två Blåbär". They kicked some seeeeeerious ass!

DUDE...FINNTROLL LYRICS ARE IN SWEDISH, AND I COULDN'T LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE THEY (and caps-lock) DIDN'T DEFINE AWESOME
