why do you think minorities are less receptive towards extreme metal?

The issue is FAR more related to class than to race. Blacks are not poor, violent, and poorly educated because they're fucking black. It's because they live and are raised in the fucking ghetto where they have no opportunity to get out and they're left to fester in the gangster culture placed upon them by mainstream media. Of course there is a lot of bullshit and plenty of double standards such as affirmative action and the fact that there are members of all races who grow up in the ghetto, but this point still holds true. The "black" culture is a product of class, not of genes.

Exactly.

And it will stay that way for a long time not only because the cycle of poverty is extremely hard to break, but the glorification of suburban gang lifestyles in the media is only making it so less young kids want to break out of that type of life.

That's at least as far as I know. I'm not an expert on the subject or anything.

Anyone could sit around whining about how they are a product of the tag "mainstream culture" has placed on them, but where the fuck would that get them?

I live right in a major US city, and not some small town or suburb. So consequentially, I am around minortities all the time. I am around black people all the time, and I know tons of black people. NONE of them are into metal, and literally almost ALL of them listen to rap (though I can actually think of a few that don't like basketball, shattering that stereotype). I am basing my assertion off the black people I am around and I know. So maybe, I should rephrase it, and say that the blacks in my city are into rap and nothing else, and not blacks all over the US or the world. And let me reiterate, that I said black people generally don't listen to metal, I know that tons of hispanics like metal.

Mainly going off of what your last two sentences said. The same is said for me. Even when I was in the Marines. There were ALOT of hispanics in the Marines. And to my amazement ALOT of them listened to rock/metal, one of which is my guitarist now, lawl. And of all the black guys I talked to, which is alot (I'm a friendly person, didn't you know?) I didn't find a single one who even like rock music, let alone metal.

Hispanics make up anywhere from 15-25% of the audience at any given death metal show in the New York area. I don't see any major racial divides in who likes metal here.
Yes. Hispanics' musical taste are no different than the whites, and perhaps there is an even larger percentage of metalheads among hispanics than among whites. However, a black metalhead is a rarity. The only black metalheads I know of are from message boards; I've never even actually seen one in person (I went to a Slayer show last spring and didn't see one black person).

I know one black goth that's into mallcore crap but that's as close as it gets. Come to think of it I'm one of the only white people (aka people in general) in the school that's heavily into metal.

Exactly.

Again, if poverty is the CAUSE, then why do poor white people not have nearly identical crime rates?

Lets look at an example based on stats from Metal Archives and Wikipedia:

Brazil: 2220 bands listed / 187 million people (2005 estimate)
Russia: 950 bands listed / 142 million people (2006 estimate)
Japan: 641 bands listed / 128 million people (2005 estimate)
Egypt: 17 bands listed / 78 million people (2006 estimate)

is that a bad thing?
I was trying to make a point. There were tons of hispanics and whites, and some Asians, but no blacks. I mentioned that because someone was arguing that it isn't true that black people don't listen to metal and only listen to rap. Most black people (though not all) don't want to listen to music not made by African Americans, and hate white people.

Did you know that Malta, of all countries, has the most metal bands per population? Kinda makes sense, since they have a significant metal scene, and a population of less than 1 million. And to tie it in with this thread, Maltese people are barely white; they are about as white as Sicilians are.
