Would you have discovered Symphony X without the Internet?

Like Pharaoh said, I have THE coolest cd store here in Greensboro, so...

Plus, my friend MeTuLHeD turned me onto prog metal in 99'. I've definatley found alot of excellent bands via the net, but with my metal history, I probably would have stumbled into The Edge of Forever eventually.

Yes I actually have 2 Stores and sell only Metal mostly Power, Progressive, and black. And another store that sells Power metal with all other types of music.

I discovered Symphony X by coincidence. I was at FYE, and I was wondering if any bands had "Symphony" in their name, since I am into symphonic music, and sure enough, I saw Symphony X. V was the current latest album, it looked good, so I bought it and loved it :) That is how I got into Symphony X.

As far as other bands, here is how it worked out for me. I discovered power metal before I had the internet simply because I liked the cover art :) Here is how it went:

I was at Harmony House, and I have always been into medieval/fantasy things and I saw this band called Kamelot. The album there was The Fourth Legacy (the week it was released too!) and it looked awesome, and since I had my allowance, I bought it, and here we go. It changed my life forever. Before Kamelot, I only listened to Maiden and Dio. After Kamelot, I kept looking for Medieval looking bands, then came along Blind Guardian, HammerFall, Rhapsody, and the list goes on. After I discovered the "core" bands, I discovered more bands via the internet.

Har har har

i wish i could afford to judge bands by their album covers. Actualy its a half-decent strategy but i think i would mess up too often.

I would have. A very wonderful person would have introduced me. A person that means a lot to me, but decided it's best to jump out of my life and hurt me as much as possible before going...

But I've still got my music.

I heard about Symphony X (and almost every other band that I listen to) in Japan, from an ad in Burrn! Magazine. Here in the US, I keep up on bands through the internet, though. And I have learned about new ones that way as well.

This is a little OT but im just curious....

Why did Symph X start touring in Japan when they first started? Must be a great crowd to market to.

I downloaded King Of Terrors and LOVED it, so I ordered The Odyssey soon after. Guess what: it blew my mind! I am currently buying all Symphony X albums from the Internet. I've got all exept the debut and The Damnation Game. My fave is The Odyssey, followed by The Divine Wings Of Tragedy, Twilight In Olympus, V: The New Mythology Suite and Live On The Edge Of Forever. I love everything about the band, especially Russell's voice and Michael Romeo's guitar playing, in fact, I consider Russell Allen to be maybe the best metal singer in a decade. :)

I'm lucky to have found about Symphony X a few years before I even went on the internet. Back in 1995 I got into Dream Theater, Rush and King's X and over the course of the next year, I slowly found out about other bands who were of a similar style but nothing in the same category as Dream Theater (except Queensryche,Fates Warning and surprisingly Magellan). Anyway I spoke to a guy in a nightclub after he noticed my Dream Theater t-shirt and he told me about a music by mail order company in the U.K. who stocked thousands of prog rock/metal albums. It took me a few months to find out about Symphony X's music after I asked the man who owns the music by mail company for prog metal recommendations. I bought The Divine Wings of Tragedy and that was in mid 1997. It took me a couple of months to really appreciate it, at first I only took to Of Sins and Shadows and Out of the Ashes but then one day, it all fell into place and I loved the bands music. I then bought The Damnation Game and then the debut in that same year.

yes, when i was ten or something i read a review about them in a metal mag.. i went to the local record store and bought divine wings.. i think that was their latest album then.. well, anyway, me being a ten year old into death metal and stuff like that, i didnt like it.. four years later, when i was cleaning, i found the cd hidden way back in the corner of my closet.. well i listened to it, and my life was changed forever.
