Would you have discovered Symphony X without the Internet?

You won't be sorry. It is quite a good album, despite what others may say. I guess everyone's main beef is bad production and the singer, but the music itself is very good I say. And for what it's worth, s/t also features some of the best lyrics band has ever written IMO.

The answer is yes. I discovered Symphony X through a review of V in Hit Parader or Metal Edge. Can't remember which. The review was postive but not glowing but I liked the description the reviewer gave of the music so I asked my wife to give it to me as a Christmas present and the rest is history.

I have to say though that the internet is now an invaluable source of information on discovering new bands and getting info on old favourites. Once I discovered Sym X I went to thier sie and slowly bought thier back catalogue which was mostly available as imports at the time.

Cheers

I know i wouldnt have.

im convinced that id still be listening to Nu-metal......

Same here. I was listening to Slipknot, Static-X, etc. I still like Godsmack, Disturbed and some of those others, but when I stumbled across Vanden Plas accidentally, my musical interests changed forever.

The funny thing is, I've been a Dream Theater fan since Images and Words and never knew all this other stuff was even out there.

The dad of the drummer of my brother's band :hypno: discovered Dream Theater. I discovered Symphony X from the internet. But even if I didn't I would found out about them because some CD stores in my neighborhood has their CD's and posters and I'm way too curious to find out how a band sounds like.

Not a chance in hell! Actually, an ex girlfriend of mine turned me onto Dream Theater and Psychotic Waltz, after that I found Fates Warning on the internet after buying shades of grey, and then a whole new musical world opened up for me!
Everybody on the Fates board was raving over Sym X, so I thought I'd give V a try. The rest as they say, is history....
