I'm just starting to get into this folk stuff, but I'm glad a few people mentioned Pagan Reign, because they kick ass.

Suidakra, Primordial, Eluveitie, Nachtfalke, Folkearth, Thyrfing and Bathory are other bands that have interested me.

And of course...

I really dont care if amonamarth are considered MDM
...they are VIKING in my book
...and they fucking rule

Amon Amarth!

They sing about vikings, but they're melodic death metal. If you listen to every other band mentioned, you'll hear vast differences in their sound. Amon Amarth employs no folk elements and doesn't really match of style of most Viking metal bands.

Nice list. I've still yet to check out Skyforger, but I plan on doing so soon. Which album would you recommend?

I'd say that Borknagar count, especially the s/t and The Olden Domain.
