Have you tried these against other ribbons? A friend of mine tried some 121s against a pair of sE R1s and preferred the R1s...
I've used 121s as overheads and I liked them a lot.

You'll be surprised but I've bougth them mainly as OH mics, guitars beeing second
I have always liked ribbons on OH and cymbals, they are much easier to sit in the mix and to my ears they sound more smooth. + ribbons in general take EQ really good. Haven't tried the sE mics and I wanted a pair of theese for a long time - don't think you can go wrong with a pair of 121s.

the RNC is an unbelievable good comp for it's price
the 163 we got looks EXACTLY like the one in the pic. It's fucking dead mint AND we got the manual! WTF!!!!!!!
tested it and it's fucking KILLER KILLER KILLER on drums. Bass was good as well.
A bit different than the 160a we have, I like the attack/release curves on it better for kick and snare than I do the 160a. talk about PUNCH. not too mention, it adds a nice little hint of mojo and vibe.
