The keys on "From Afar" emulate a full-piece orchestra, and most of the other songs I've heard sound like they do as well.

Not saying that's bad; I love symphonic metal. I just think it's a pretty big shift for Ensiferum.

Part of me thinks they want to be like Turisas.

Azter (of Denial of God and Horror Records) is a good friend of the band, so it's not quite as odd as it initially seems. Horror Records was supposed to release picture disc versions of the albums, but I'm not sure if that's still planned. Also, Jex Thoth is great, and the new The Gates of Slumber album cover is the fourth they've used from Ken Kelly, but the difference is that this one was a commissioned piece. Well, at least that's one perk in signing with Rise Above.

Jess Thoth's best is definately the Jex Thoth s/t, I'm somewhat indifferent to the Totem EP. Also, the PA/Jex split is nothing random, it's a pretty cool thing, and adequate tbh.
