Hi,

Here's just five of the main reasons I think Opeth rule. (And yes, I might have
forgotten something)

#1 The vocals. Have you noticed that Mike prenounces the lyrics suprisingly
well, even when he growls? He articulates even when growling! Funny it might
sound sometimes, but in the end of the day it really makes it more enjoyable.
Because one might actually hear the vocals and that makes it easier to listen to
than some "fire-alarm-screaming"-technique. Mike is also one of the "Top-1"
metal-vocalist doing clean vocals in my oppinion! Won't you agree? :tickled:

#2 Concepts. They do concepts and not only are the music and vocals great,
but the feel, as well. Anyway their music have layers and so have the lyrics
with fucking awesome themes!

#3 Styles. They mix and match styles in the music and it's not always clear
what's metal, what's rock and what's jazz and so on. It just become like
some obscure (but wonderful) Opeth-style. I think that helps the songs to be
more enjoyable in the long-run. It's not just one style and one beat all the
time.

#4 Running-time. OK, not all bands can go ahead and make 10-minute songs.
I really enjoyed Green Day's opus "Jesus of Suburbia" for some time. It was a
great effort, really, but lets face it: they'll never come close to what Opeth's
doing with their songs. The length combined with the variated styles makes
Opeth songs interesting almost all the time throughout the whole song.
I don't know about you guys, but I never tend to think that "oh my God that
song is long" I just listen to it like it was a 4-minute song. It doesn't
become boring with Opeth! I guess it's because they, appearently, doesn't
know about the "verse-verse-bridge-chorus" - and so on - structure. :)

#5 Musicians. Overall why their music rule is because of Mike's geniusity
and the guys professionalism in music. Martin Lopez is outrageously awesome on
the drums. He's so accurate and variated it's scary. Marin Mendez. Well, have
you ever seen a guy so busy? He's obviously forgot that he is a bass-player and
thinks he's a guitarrist :) Per Wiberg. Great guy, basically. Doesn't know that
much about him, but he really fits the band with his mellotron, organ and
mono-thing going on :)
And Mike Åkerfeldt: The mastermind.

[Edit: You guys don't think I left Peter out did ya? Just forgot. Dunno how,
but anyway Peter Lindgren is one of my favourite guitarrists. He's very talented!]

You could have at least mentioned peter as the backup guitarist and co-writer on the first two albums... but noooo000000ooo.... fanboyism! Heresy I say! You shall be sentenced to death by anal electrocution.

that gotta hurt!

there are tons of reasons why opeth fucking rules, to name them all will take a while...

they're just like no other one

Oh I'm so sorry I left Peter out. Cant really find a reason why. I think that peter's a awesome guitarrist... And he's cool as a person aswell. Once again sorry.

Well, what can I say? I like Green Day :) But I'm no fan. I've got two records :)

THREAD INFO: Actually, I wrote the thread mostly to mention the thing about Mike's growling and how he tend to articulate every syllable! very cool!

They are indeed good. I can't really properly explain why i like them so much..On a separate note I like how Mikael looks (or at least looked) vaguely similar to Grutle Kjellson, another of my favourite musicians. :)
