Are you guys looking forward to the new Slayer album?

St. Anger = Metallicas "finished" point. The point where they hit total SUCK. The song writing sucks, the lyrics suck, the album just plain suck. And about it not being radio friendly? What kinda bullshit is that? I hear songs from it on the radio often.

AJFA is the last good album metallica released... end of discussion.

When you have a producer like Bob Rock, one of the greatest producers in the world (not my opinion), and you intentionally craft a crappy sounding album, why pay all the money for such a godly producer?

James isn't a professionally trained singer. I'll admit it. But he is a musician, he has an ear, and thus he has the ability to determine when his singing is not working. Some of the notes he hits while singing on St. Anger are just horrid. And to think he said, "YEAH! Let's stick with that" doesn't fly with me.

Just because something is heavy or a "radical statement" does not make it good by any means whatsoever.

That's mildly insane. "Only legit" criticism? I believe it's a huge disappointment. I think it's a sad new low for a band that once topped the world. Their supposed honesty and back to basic approach, for me, yielded nothing but half-baked ideas and childlike honesty. It was a poor album, and remains one of the biggest musical disappointments in recent years.

Sure, you can disagree...but don't take a pig-headed attitude and pretend like we cannot dislike the album on any solid grounds.

See, Derek, you are not evaluating the work on it's own merits and you admit it by referencing the artist as "a band that once topped the world". Bro, that band has been gone for 15+ years. Cliff isn't walking through the door anytime soon. They had to make an album and after 10 years of mainstream-ish hard rock they made the rawest, grittiest slab of Death/Emo rock they could muster. "Half-Baked"...I agree mostly. But, c'mon, you gotta admit this...It's heavy as Hell!

As far as the "pig-headed" thing - Hey, bro, I'm just saying that the disc rocks, no matter who made it. You are the one trashing it because it doesn't compare favorably with RTL or MOP...very few albums do. Further, I would hardly call that a "solid ground" upon which to evaluate any release.

For example, I think Dreaming Neon Black is one of the greatest albums of all time. I also think that Enemies of Reality is somewhat half-baked and pedestrian by comparison - I was certainly disappointed with it in that frame of reference, as many were. However, judged on it's own merits - independent of expectations - EoR is really very good. That said, I rarely listen to it because Nevermore, for me, is GREAT not just very good. So should I slag EoR as " one of the biggest musical disappointments in recent years."?

Geez, alright already, I'm sorry I brought it up! This topic is clearly bringing out the worst in some of us.

Don't be surprised, tho, if the new Metallica is very heavy and very good.

In comparision of Past Nevermore albums, I tagged Dhiadw and EOR as dissapointments. Good yes... but it wasn't half as good as nevermore could do. Then TGE came out and blew me the fuck away...

WTF?

EOR I could understand, although I personally really like it. But DHIADW? Dude, that album is a musical and production masterpiece.

Will, I am a Newb here. I am sorry I have to be the one who tells you this but...St. Anger is absolutely brilliant. It is easily the most unique major rock release of our lifetime and it rules! It's heavy as fuck, completely anti-radio, and not the least bit reminiscent of anything before or since. It's almost as if they did it to "thin the herd" and trim away a couple of million people/fans they didn't need. That's Balls!

Metallica rules...always has/always will! (except for that Bob Segar cover)

I hope you're joking.

Metallisheep piss me off.
