Are you more than metal?

Oh so your a rich boy from Conneticut huh? FUCK YOU! IF your so fucking good at swimming and 20th in the nation, why aint you in a Division 1 school?
Cause I wouldn't even make nationals in Division 1:p

Put some fucking use to yourself and run (or swim) with English.
Yeah. Like I said. Learn to read jerk!:p

Traveling the world eh? Do you know what that is? Overated. Going to an airport just to have them sniff your shoes is a waste of your and other peoples time. Why go to places that dont speak English? thats just dumb. Places that dont speak English good is stupid. Montreal? do you call that travelling the world? you live in a small world preppy.
It's a place I haven't been, so why not?:) And you spelled overrated wrong:D

And yes, you do need my approval for this topic. I know you secretly desire it.

Well let's see...

At this current point in time, Music is also pretty much all I'm involved with.

I've been playing guitar for about 3 years now, slowly getting closer to a level of playing that will satisfy me.

Collect CD's and DVD's, got a small collection compared to some people, but it's growing (I've got a 5 CD and 2 DVD a week habit normally, trying to cut down :D )

I love to watch movies, especially obscure kung fu and B movies, as well as metal concert DVD's.

I watch a lot of television too, such as simpsons, south park, SNL, mad TV, and law and order and other Cop/Lawyer shows like that, and I especially enjoy watching hockey and football (Senators and Packers are my teams!).

I don't play a lot of sports, but I play road hockey whenever I get the chance to.

Trek to many a concert outside of the city I'm in, but the trips themselves are half the fun.

Hoping to major in Journalism or History next year in university, and want to become a sports journalist or well paid historian :D .

Well, I`m 15 and live in Norway. Apart from listening to Symx, most of my time goes to playing guitar. As mr.Shredididdle(or something like that) i`m the only shredder in school, who actually listens to good music. It warms my heart to hear that im not the only one who has the same problem.I also play in a band with Velocity, who has posted some places.
I also play a lot of playstation, apart from studying at school.

I am also 15 years old and i go to school. In my spare time i play drums, probably like 3 hours every day. I play a bit football, and rehersal with Shredmaster every tuesday (his shredding all the time at the rehersals make me mad!) , and we also play some conserts. Probably all the students at the scool listen to shit like Blink 182, me and the bass-player in my band are the only one who doesn`t.
So i can`t come up with more, then you guys just have to wait to my band Velocity are famous and come to USA! :)

I too listen to music every chance i get, you will never see me without headphones unless I have my stereo on in my room, I spend large amounts of money on batteries even though my MD Player gets 100+ hrs I still listen so much. Music is my life, and while I have other dreams and ambitions, I would like to start a band with my friend. I have one friend that I can call a true friend, then several other people I know that occasionally stab me in the back. I like computers, but more importantly I want to start a band, but my parents are hugely unsupportive, but I'll keep metal alive. There were two guys in my school that listened to metal, me and my best friend. then he graduated (no i didn't fail, he was a grd. ahead), so I am the lone ranger :)

So yah, metal is my life.

My name is Macy (fake name because I fear you)
I'm 19 years old

I love all styles in music, if it's a good song (but somehow nothing beats prog metal)
I'm in last year of high-school (two months left) studying music
I'm planing on studying sound-engineering next year
I have no real friends who are into prog
BUT, I do have a boyfriend who listens to black/death+
I hate black/death metal
I like sci-fi/fantasy/action movies

roarbiopic.JPG

That's right, i'm the shitty keyboard player from the DT concert

Soooo....
If any one of you guys want to know more about me, just check my bands website...
(I'm Roar...)

My name's Andrew, I'm 18 years old and from England.
I play guitar, and my current musical interest is prog metal, favourite being Symphony X :D, having matured from power metal (used to be massive maiden fan). I also like various other genres, such as jazz and classical music.
Other interests are rock climbing and kendo. I love animé & manga, my favourite is probably the Rurouni Kenshin OVA series.

Wow, I just spent like an hour reading through all the posts here. Great
to see that so many people are into the same stuff that I like.

I'm 18, live in Sweden, my real name is Kristoffer (High-five to SyX-Fan)
and I, like so many others here, play the guitar, and have been doing
so for about 5 years now. I'm completely self-taught (meaning not
having taken any lessons. Reading tablature on the internet doesn't
count as taking lessons, right?) but I've been helped a great deal by
playing with really talented people, the members of my band, who
also happen to be some of my closest friends.

Apart from prog (Sy X, DT, (Evergrey?)) I like to listen to Power
Metal like Edguy, Lost Horizon, Hammerfall, Avantasia (Basically Edguy),
Nocturnal Rites, and other kinds of musis, mostly Jorn Lande (His solo
stuff) and stuff like that. Actually, I'd say I like practically anything
that has good melodies and cool guitar stuff in it, hehe.

When I'm not playing or listening to music, I like to read, mostly Fantasy
(currently readin Robert Jordan's "The Wheel of Time") or Stephen
King-ish stuff, and I'm also into computers (Not like some of you
people, don't know any C++ or anything like that. My skills in
programming don't reach beyond Pascal yet, which is what we're
learning in school).

I'm currently on the second year of the Swedish equivalent to College
(I think) and my major is Maths and Science. I think I'm probably the
only one who's into Sy X in my school, and I'm also prolly the only
"shredder" (if a shredder is a guitarist who plays fast stuff?), which
is really a shame when it comes to our music classes, where all the
others only want to play pop-music and stuff like that, and most of
the music in that genre is rather boring for a guitarist, atleast IMO.

Hmmm....what else....Oh, I don't drink alcohol. Not because of some
moral stuff, but simply because I don't like the stuff. I'd much rather
have something distributed by the Coca-Cola Company, heh.

So, that's me. I'd just like to end this post by adding that this forum
really rocks. Keep up the good work people!

My second post on this forum. Party time! :D

I'm 21 years old.

I live in Oulu, a seaside city in northern Finland, and study math and computer science at the local university. In the summer I'm going to move together with my girlfriend who lives in Jyväskylä.

I got into heavier music by listening to Metallica in junior high. (You know, the *older* Metallica - the thrash stuff, not the new country-rock stuff. :p)

In senior high I loaned Awake from the local library and got totally blown away. Since then I've loathed mainstream music, format radio, boy bands (not that I ever listened to any) and just about everything else. Well okay, not EVERYTHING else, just the choicest bits. ;) I found Symphony X as I was paging through some ads in a music magazine and saw and ad for Twilight in Olympus with the headlining "this is a MUST for every Dream Theater fan". What could I do? I just had to go to the nearest music store and be blown clear once again. :D

I've played guitar for about eight years now. (Oh god, has it already been that long?) I've been a bit rusty since my band broke up and I had to spend a whole year in the army, but I'm slowly trying to creep up to the days of my prowess. Even though I think I'm not that great, everybody around me seems to think I am. Go figure. :) Now that I upgraded my computer, I'm finally able to use it as a home studio. (Not a great one, of course, but it beats getting a 4-track and a drum machine. ;) Some results of my experiments can be found here: http://www.student.oulu.fi/~jannekos/dl_en.html

Besides guitar and music, I'm immersed in the wonderful world of 1's and 0's - Computers and Internet. I also play Magic the Gathering and some go.

Lately I've also been very interested in anime and movies in general. Hayao Miyazaki kicks behinds. :) My favourite movies thus far have been Requiem for a Dream, 12 Apes and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon just to name a few. (I recently saw Hero and it was - imho - stunning. :))

I also enjoy a good book every once in a while. The Hyperion series by Dan Simmons ranks at the top of my personal list right now. The Otherland series by Tad Williams is also very good. I read mostly fantasy and sci-fi with a touch of horror here and there and a little bit of finnish literature.

Oh yeah, I write tanka poems. (Which is kind of sad, isn't it? :D )

man, i used to play Magic too. Dont anymore. I couldnt keep up once i headed to college. It was also uber expensive and it was either music or magic. I think i made the right choice. I would play casually for fun, but unfortunately I sold all of my stuff. Back when tempest and Urza's saga came out, that was when it was the most fun for me. then everything got ssslllooowwweeerrr. But it was still fun. I was kind of serious about it for a while entering tournaments and stuff.

Damn it now i wanna play again. :(

I'm the Metal Chick aka Amanda. I'm 19 years old, attending college to major in fiction writing. I've played the guitar for about 7 years, but I don't play much anymore because I am addicted to writing stories. All of my stories have a common theme of music(of course!), with musicians as characters and stuff like that.

I'm one of those types that doesn't give a crap about what others think of me. I like to stand out, but in my own individual way. I don't wear makeup or any of that girly stuff. But I do have a girly crush on Sir Russell Allen...

One of my hobbies is autograph collecting. I draw portraits of my favorite bands and then have the band autograph them. I've had drawings signed by Iced Earth, In Flames, Dream Theater, King's X, Bad Religion, Blind Guardian, and of course, Symphony X. The day I had SX sign my pictures was the best day of my life!! They are the coolest dudes ever in the whole universe!!!

Okay, let's see...

Aside from having a taste in music that is unique in my high school, most people I know regard me as a very intelligent person. Unlike most people in my school who are sports fanatics, I prefer going home and looking up things that interest me on the internet, and learning about history and mythology. Most people think I am weird, but I don't mind. Right now my life is going pretty well. I get my driving permit this Friday, the day I will turn sixteen. I am interested in two girls right now, one a freshman and one a junior (I'm a sophmore), and both of them are very cute.

I have a well-to-do family, and I live in a three story house with all of the best of the best in interior decorating. My parents love the Victorian style. We are finishing the basement, so soon my house will be party central.

As for my current learnings in history. I am reading about the Vietnam war on my own, and the Civil War in history class. I am currently reading "The Inferno" by Dante (Inspired by Iced Earth's "Dante's Inferno" of course), as well as the Christian Bible (I'm not Christian, I just felt that I needed to read it.) After completing these works of literature, I hope to move on to "A Clockwork Orange" and "War of the Worlds".

So, yeah. That is my life right now in a nutshell...
