My second post on this forum. Party time!
I'm 21 years old.
I live in Oulu, a seaside city in northern Finland, and study math and computer science at the local university. In the summer I'm going to move together with my girlfriend who lives in Jyväskylä.
I got into heavier music by listening to Metallica in junior high. (You know, the *older* Metallica - the thrash stuff, not the new country-rock stuff.
)
In senior high I loaned Awake from the local library and got totally blown away. Since then I've loathed mainstream music, format radio, boy bands (not that I ever listened to any) and just about everything else. Well okay, not EVERYTHING else, just the choicest bits.
I found Symphony X as I was paging through some ads in a music magazine and saw and ad for Twilight in Olympus with the headlining "this is a MUST for every Dream Theater fan". What could I do? I just had to go to the nearest music store and be blown clear once again.
I've played guitar for about eight years now. (Oh god, has it already been that long?) I've been a bit rusty since my band broke up and I had to spend a whole year in the army, but I'm slowly trying to creep up to the days of my prowess. Even though I think I'm not that great, everybody around me seems to think I am. Go figure.
Now that I upgraded my computer, I'm finally able to use it as a home studio. (Not a great one, of course, but it beats getting a 4-track and a drum machine.
Some results of my experiments can be found here:

Besides guitar and music, I'm immersed in the wonderful world of 1's and 0's - Computers and Internet. I also play Magic the Gathering and some go.
Lately I've also been very interested in anime and movies in general. Hayao Miyazaki kicks behinds.
My favourite movies thus far have been Requiem for a Dream, 12 Apes and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon just to name a few. (I recently saw Hero and it was - imho - stunning.
)
I also enjoy a good book every once in a while. The Hyperion series by Dan Simmons ranks at the top of my personal list right now. The Otherland series by Tad Williams is also very good. I read mostly fantasy and sci-fi with a touch of horror here and there and a little bit of finnish literature.
Oh yeah, I write tanka poems. (Which is kind of sad, isn't it?
)
