Atonement

2nd best track on the album, behind ghost of perdition imo.. but i dont really like the rest of the album.. so compared to other releases its not really that good anyway

I feel the same. I like GoP, BotH, Atonement and R/HF.

I like them, but I love most Opeth songs.

GR really didn't do it for me.

yeah man, I would like Harlequin Forest if they hadnt ripped off their best track 'To Bid You Farewell' in the mellow section...

''They are the trees rotten pulp inside..''
''I am awaiting the sunrise gazing modestly ...''

etc

(try singing along its annoyingly easy)

and if the ending hadnt have been so drawn out.. if they'd pulled a deliverance and had a different drum beat syncopating the riff it might have been good but in all I thought it dragged on too long which is a shame because the first few minutes are awesome.

OMG I think this is the first time I genuinely agree with anyone on this forum.

Cheers

WELL SAID DAZ MEIGHT :worship:

 and as they say greif is only able to possess

cool. yeah I was really excited for the release of ghost reveries, and i really liked it when i first got hold of it.. but now when I look at it and compare it to other albums I just dont like it as much. its not as complex as other albums despite its prog nature. all you have to do is listen to Moonlapse Vertigo (particularly the closing riff) and then The Grand Conjuration and you will realise alot of the complexity and 'Opeth' feel about Opeth is lacking in this release, but hey this is just my opinion.. its cool to see people that agree with it, but its also cool to see people disagree :)

Does anyone else hear the Beatles influence in Atonement? I picked it up on first listen. Sure enough, I recall in an interview either Peter or Mike said it was inspired by a Beatles song. My hunch is it was "Within You Without You"

I definetly see the Beatles influence.
Its a psychadelic (I must have spelled that wrong) sounding song.

It's my second to least favourite song on GR. Only BTM is less awesome in my opinion. Still really like it though, it just isn't focussed enough. But it's still growing on me, whereas Harlequin Forest is begining to wear a little, so they might switch in the near future.
