Axe's drumming in TLE

Axe rocks, but I kinda miss that stuff that made Opeth more unique because of Lopez (not saying that they aren´t anymore) , e.g. stuff like him playing Djembes in some sections or simply those soft jazzy parts best heard on Deliverance. It somehow sounds weird to me if Axe tries to play something like that. He is a good metal drummer, and that makes him nothing very special imho. To get back to the initial topic, yes that part is good, but I think Mike somewhere said that he quite held his fire on WS, so I´m curious about how he is going to develop.

He is amazing ... yet still, at some few parts of the album, especially in Derelict Herds, I wonder how Lopez would have sounded, with more groovy drumming. Not saying this to criticize Axe though ;)

I have actually been playing a ton of Derelict Herds lately, and I think it really made me appreciate/connect with Axe's drumming. I agree that it does make you wonder how ML would have done with the song, but Axe really slays it IMHO.

Overall I think Axe is fantastic, but I still cannot stand that gawd aweful section from 2:15 - 2:30 in Porcelain Heart. It really is a distraction from the song as a whole.

Well, he has just played in 1 album so far, maybe he'll develop more his mellow side, just like Fred has developed his acoustic guitar skills like he said on the documental.
