Bands You Used To Love, But Now Loathe

I have absolutely no regrets on any bands I have listened to in the past, they have all served their purpose and I can honestly say I still enjoy 99% of the music I've ever listened to. My tastes in music haven’t changed, they’ve only just expanded.

About 10 years ago as an innocent child, I did listen to Korn...however, I think they are fucking terrible at this stage in their career, and though I never use the term 'sellout' I have to say Korn are in fact sellouts, they constantly hash out pointless material that isn't even worth being sold to fans, and they are very money-driven. You might say I hate them.

As for Cradle of Filth. An all-time favourite band of mine, I can say in the past few years I've somewhat grown to dislike them. Their fan base was invaded by naive and unintelligent 14 yr girls, especially when Nymphetamine came out. It’s almost like they isolated their fan base to appeal to this crowd, and their music has progressively been getting worse over the years, and Thornography is just an embarrassment to their catalogue and by comparison it really made Nymphetamine look like a masterpiece which is says a lot.

I came for the black metal, and all I got was folky power metal. No thanks.

I'm tired of people calling bands like Children of Bodom and Wintersun "power metal". Obviously, they have never REALLY listened to power metal, because if they did, they would see the fallacy in that description. Just because it's major-key does not make it power metal. Wintersun is a good embodiment of the ambiguous term "viking metal".

A couple bands that fit into the category:

System of a Down - I don't really hate them, but I like them a lot less than I used to (they were my favorite band for nigh a year)
Avenged Sevenfold - I loved City of Evil and Waking the Fallen, but I actually sold them a couple weeks ago because I saw no reason to own them anymore.
Dream Theater - Train of Thought was a great album, but the band lost its luster to me when I discovered better prog bands like Symphony X. They are also an absolute yawn-fest and write terribly generic songs.
Strapping Young Lad - I enjoyed a few songs from their newer albums, but overall, this band does nothing for me.

Just a few to start off with.

I know what power metal sounds like, and Wintersun has viking/folk power metal written all over it, right down to the drumming. I have nothing against that. In fact, I'll take Wintersun over most power metal bands. Unfortunately, that kind of music is not what I desire. More power to those who do like it, but because I don't care for something because it sounds remotely like power metal, doesn't mean I hate it or discredit its musical merit.

-Fear Factory
.

:)

I started listening to FF again recently for the first time in around 5 years and would say Demanufacture is still a neat album and soul of a new machine has its moments.

Metallica. I loathe metallica now and generally only spin Kill Em All once in awhile
Soilwork. I use to enjoy older soilwork mainly A Predators Portrait.
In Flames
Lord Belial and some other black metal.
Immolation
Naglfar
Hypocrisy.
Pantera

I am in general sick of a lot.

I have been listening to old Slayer again regardless hating what the band has become.

Same here. I can't think of any bands I ever liked that I now hate. In the case of Metallica, I still like the first 3-1/2, but I never really liked anything after that. No change.

I guess it's the benefit of growing up at the same time real metal was gowing up.

yeah, i understand your point, but must have some band that you don't listen nowadays

While it seems to be a trend here, System of a Down is probably the band I've experienced the sharpest decline in interest for. I used to listen to them quite a lot when I was first getting into metal, but now I can't stand their angsty melodies, spastic dynamics, weird vocals, and, of course, annoying liberal rants. There are few things more irritating than politics in music.

The runner-up band is Rammstein. They were pretty much the band that got me into metal, and for a long time they were my favorite, but I rarely ever listen to them these days. I still find their music enjoyable, but I'm just not into the industrial sound anymore, and of course, if you read a translation of their lyrics, most of them sound pretty adolescent and silly.

Other honorable mentions:
Cradle of Filth
Type O Negative
Nightwish
DevilDriver
X Japan
Children of Bodom
Sonata Arctica
Stratovarius

I'd say I still like all of the above bands (besides SOAD); it's mainly the style of music that keeps me from listening to them. Melodic death, goth, power, etc. all sounded really cool when I first heard it, but got old pretty quickly. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if I got into them again sometime in the future.
