If there was to be a new genre of metal called battle metal, what would your band picks be. I personally would say:
1. Bal Sagoth
2. Turisas
3. Therion
4. Power Sword
5. Thy Majestie
6. Tvangeste
7. Rhapsody (Rhapsody of Fire)

Your thoughts and/or opinions.

Bands with lyrics about battles with potentially no musical similarities outside of being of the blanket genre "metal."

I knew you were a sagoth fan!

I thought it was Gul-Kothoth though.

Amon Amarth

but I can think of a lot of bands' music that I'd love to march into battle to, even when the bands aren't "battle metal"

I hate when people refer to Amon Amarth as viking metal. They are a melodeath band, and a far above average one at that. To me, viking metal is that folkish black metal with occasional clean vocals (Riger, Die Saat, Bergthron, Nachtfalke, etc.).

I know that no one actually thinks of battle metal as a true genre, though plenty of people do for viking metal.

I agree with that. They just talk about a lot of Viking themes in their songs.
