Best NON-Metal Albums of 2010

Bwahaha. He sings like a woman.

Listened to new Suf once, experienced profound geometric confusion. Dunno what the fuck he was thinking (like anything he's done post-Illinois), but I'm in.

Yeah, he (she?!) reminds me of Nina Simone and has a knack for hitting some crazy emotional territories. His past 2 albums are fucking awesome.

Re: Sufjan...he's definitely not afraid of experimentation and never to tread water.

Needs more listens:
ARCADE FIRE - The Suburbs
LIARS - Sisterworld
PRINCE RAMA - Shadow Temple
BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE - Forgiveness Rock Record
KAYO DOT - Coyote

If these two grow on you as they did me with each listen, they will soon make their way toward the top of that list. Especially the BSS. i find myself having songs off that record stuck in my head days after listening to it. It truly is great stuff. I must thank Ken for recommending it so intently.

Youse blokes might not be all that interested in this, not being complete fanboys of The Drones as I am, but Gareth Liddiard (lead singer/songwriter of the Drones) recently released his debut solo record, Strange Tourist.

Read a review here, cos I'm way too lazy to write my own.

how does one go about listening to a band called "broken social scene"

I've reached my final(?) verdict on the Arcade Fire: 8/10. Not top ten of the year material, but definitely a step up from Neon Bible.

I DO NOT LIKE the new Sufjan. I've heard it twice and have no desire to ever do so again. But I know I will, because I paid 12 American Dollars for it yesterday. He went full retard with this one.

New Deerhunter is ace as fuck. 9/10 good.

Brian Eno has a new one coming out next month. Huh.

Has anybody heard Les Discrets - Septembre Et Ses Dernieres Pensees? I've just heard some samples a few minutes ago but based on those, I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned in this thread.

Because it hardly qualifies for "best"
It's quite good though, all innocence and atmospheres, I'd go for less post-rock and more classical guitar next time

Okay, right after I said that I decided to give it a quick listen on the ol' youtubes. I have to agree that it's good but not great.

Sadly, I still don't think I've heard anything this year that has blown me away. Occasionally, when I've had time and been desperate for new music, I've gone on frenzied listening sprees but I'll be damned if I can find anything that gets more than a "meh" out of me.

Uhhhhhhhhhh....... you've heard Illinois, right?

That Avey Tare solo album leaked, so it's already up on iTunes and such though the actual release date is the 26th. Listened to it last night. Not what I was expecting (as far as all the swamp-iness goes), a lot of herky-jerky rhythms and off-center vocal harmonies. Early verdict: :err:.

Tried the new BSS again. Wasn't feeling it. Though I do dig "World Sick" and "All To All." Is that Feist singing on the latter? I assume she's still in the band, since she's only banged about 4 of the 18-whatever band members (note double-entendre).

The more I listen to the new LCD, the more I kinda think it sucks.

Sleigh Bells are tits. Heaviest album of the year.

Ken, have you heard Prince Rama? Amon Duul II worship with samplers, tribal rhythms and stuff that sounds like the soundtrack for an SNES dungeon. The main chick in the band is a total cutie. I met her last month. She fell in love with me.

Relevant becuz the whole time I was listening to Adz, I was wishing that I was listening to Illinois. (I'm also pissed that he didn't do a North Carolina album.)
