I'm back...though most of you won't remember me, since I tended to just lurk for recs. I'm looking to expand past my 80s and early 90s listening habits. What's some good shit from 2019 so far? I tend to like thrash, death, and traditional.

CiG always has something good, Ozz for the groovy shit yins hate, and techbarb/hamboy for some thrash. Whatcha got?

Infernal Conjuration - Infernale Metallum Mortis
Superstition - The Anatomy of Unholy Transformation
Malignant Altar - Retribution of Jealous Gods
Imprecation - Damnatio Ad Bestias
Sorathian Dawn - Sun of the Deep
Inculter - Fatal Visions
Sadistic Ritual - Visionaire of Death

Can also recommend some black metal, but you didn’t mention it as a genre you like.

Funereal Presence - Achatius
Suhnopfer - Hic Regnant Borbonii Manes
Vehemence - Par le Sang Verse
Vargrav - Reign in Supreme Darkness (definitely give this a shot if you like In the Nightside Eclipse)

I remember your name at least, which is about all I remember for probably two thirds of the forum anyways. I don't listen to that much new stuff tbh, Baroque would know 100x more about 2019 thrash than me. But the new !TOOH! EP was really good, not Pod/Rad-tier in writing but it's more or less a return to the style at least. The new Arch/Matheos is good too, and thanks in part to shorter song lengths and guest musicians (including Zonder on a couple tracks) I think it's an improvement over the first. Vultures Vengeance's The Knightlore is a very good trad/power debut.

@Phylactery mentioned one of my favourites already, the new Inculter album Fatal Visions so definitely seconding that, but as it stands the new Holocausto album Diário de Guerra will probably be my #1 for this year (venomous as fukk 80's South American death/thrash), still waiting on more things to drop (especially the new Diabolic Night album, killer speed metal, do yourself a favour and check out the leaked track).

Then there's these that are heavy rotation 2019 releases for me:

Neoandertals - Neanderthal Parallax (drum-and-bass-only brutal death metal)
Torso - Demonic Vomiting (old school brutal death metal by the Torsofuck guy)
Lord Gore - Scalpels for Blind Surgeons (goregrind/death metal, and with this album I feel they've effectively transcended the whole Impetigo/Carcass worship gimmick)
Sanguisugabogg - Pornographic Seizures (don't be fooled by their name, it isn't grind, it's very sick death metal that kinda taps into the proto-brutal death metal thing)
Devourment - Obscene Majesty (legends of slam death metal, a return-to-form of sorts)
Birdflesh - Extreme Graveyard Tornado (classick Swedish grindcore concerned solely with having fun and melting faces)
Dipygus - Deathooze (immediate comparison is old Autopsy, but they have their own twists and turns to avoid being a clone band, just twisted death/doom/grind metal)
Vulture - Ghastly Waves & Battered Graves (vicious thrashy speed metal, all around a good time)
Jig-Ai - Entrails Tsunami (Czech goregrind suffering from severe yellow fever, totally sweet no-nonsense grinding massacre!)
Undeath - Sentient Autolysis (nasty New York death metal)
死んだ細胞の塊 - Saibogu (brutal death metal from Japan with some really disgusting riffage on offer)
Thecodontion - Jurassic (paleontological experimental black/death metal from Italy with no guitar, just bass, drums and vocals)
Mephitic Corpse - Immense Thickening Vomit (ultra low grinding death metal that sounds straight out of the cult 90's demo death metal scene)
Fatal Agent - Re-Animated (classic-sounding U.S. thrash metal played by pretty damn young dudes and they rip)
Failed Treatment - Spread of Infection (sweet goregrind featuring the man behind a million grind bands Hagamoto, look him up)

For traditional metal, I liked the new albums from Diamond Head and Rock Goddess.

Everything else I've liked so far has been doomy stuff, apart from Into Orbit who are instrumental post-rock/metal. Mostly paying attention to local NZ stuff as usual:

Into Orbit - Kinesis
TVX - TVX
Mosquito Control - Morbid Orations in the Pestilential Age
Knowhere - Demo
Candlemass - The Door to Doom

actually working on a 2019 BM list atm. hoping to do one for most genres by the end of the year.

Favourites so far? I’ve heard quite a lot of black metal this year. Nothing amazing (save perhaps the Funereal Presence which I am still absorbing), but plenty of good stuff.

AotY. Hands fucking down.

Not even the best black metal album this year.
