Best solo of all time

drums. thats actually VERY effective since i suck ass at drums.

and yes Luz, there are at least 2 stores who tried to sell me a "beginner package". thats about the time i pick up a guitar and go to town, and they walk away puzzled. the look on their faces is worth the time and effort

Mmmm, well here if they play 'Crazy Train' is waaay too much for their brains :tickled: (I don't play any instrument) only Starway to Heaven or some stupid Nirvana songs (sorry for those who liked this band)

:ill: the other 2 songs that suck in a guitar store is someone failing to play Eruption, or Crazy Train.

heh! i never liked nirvana. could never understand the appeal they held for all my peers.

ps: i'm having a stroke right now and cant remember the name of chris cornell's band of that era. someone help please.

^ thank you. i can remember what Kim Thayil's shirt said on 3:48 PM, August 12th, 1991 but not what his band was called. sheesh.

That one Nevermore song on 'Dead Heart' where the dude does a sweep up into what sounds like the fastest single-note trill I've ever heard. I don't know if that thing is even possible, I've never seen it done, but that's what it sounds like.

Engines of Hate.

That solo is pretty nuts

Hah. Thanks. Been trying to figure that out for a while. I don't even remember the song, I'm not a big Nevermore fan, but I remember the solo. My ex-guitarist played that for me one day, and I made him play it like 3 more times. I was like "oh god."

As I said, I recently got a DM album, Ravendusk in my Heart, and dug it, so I was interested to hear Death's Design. I'm nearing the end of it now, and it fuckin rules. It reminds me of Crimson 2, how it's broken down, and stuff. Does Anders play all the orchestrated stuff himself too? If so, I'm impressed even more.

Nah, Anders got a 4 piece to do all the orchestral parts, then had another dude do the Jazz guitar parts.

Everything else is Anders.

Everytime I'm in a guitar store, some knob-gobbler is always playing the intro to Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters"...over and over. I want to bash the guitar over their head.

Well. i have been attempting to answer this question...but everytime i think i have figured out the best...i remember another one which i feel was better.

but i think my temporary conclusion is that i have to pick several...and those which havent already been said, just to keep things interesting. My criteria is based only on phrasing, melody and emotion...as for thats all i really care about these days. All of these choices have somehow shaped my aproach to guitar or just how i look at melody in general (seeing as theyre not all guitarists or guitar solos). enjoy.
