Black Metal Recommendations-Beyond the Obvious

I think a lot of people actually download uploaded songs, but then forget or simply CBA to comment it later on. At least I know that's been the case with me several times and I doubt that would make me special

some BM bands ive been researching thoroughly:

Gehenna (yes Henrik, I'm finally going to properly check these guys out....probably)
Mutiilation
Celestia

comments welcome.

Did you listen to that Forgotten Tomb album yet? Really good stuff. You should also check out Krohm - A World Through Dead Eyes. I love it when albums appeal to melancholy and these two definitely get it done.

Yeah, give it some more listens. I didn't hit me real hard the first few times, but it's one of those rewarding albums. The fourth track tends to really put me in a trance and appeal to memories and hopes, so that's always a good thing.

This Krohm album is really something though. I'm sure there is someone else that can vouch for them. The songs "A Lurking Dream", "A World Through Dead Eyes" and "My Hearse" are so incredibly thick in atmosphere and emotion. Fabulous stuff.

You should try and get hold of the Slayer Of Lost Martyrs/Crown Of The Ancients demo compilation, it's just as good as A World Through Dead Eyes imo.

Make sure to get "Seen Through The Veil Of Darkness (Second Spell)", the "First Spell" EP and "Malice" first - their other records, while good, are more typical blackened death, whereas their first three efforts are stellar synth-laden, atmopsheric, mid-paced BM.

So Nagelfar's first album, whose name I can't spell, is extremely well executed. THe other one Sgoothorth or something has more electronic/ambient moments, but is still quite good. They remind me of Hirilorn in a good way. Both melodic black metal type bands but in a good quality sense.

As far as Countess, Spawn of Steel > Heilig Vuur.

I own the first Ruins of Beverast record but I haven't listened to it that much. My initial reactions though, were: "Hm, I'm really not very fond of movie samples in black metal" and "This record has too many tracks". But time will tell, it may be a grower.

Musically it's speedy, well executed, ambitious, with a rather too clinical production.

The Ruins of Beverast's Unlock The Shrine is easily one of my favourite black metal releases. Extremely atmospheric and there's just something different about it compared to other BM releases. Furious Waves of Damnation is alright, but not fantastic and I haven't heard the latest one that was released earlier this week, but as soon as I can find a way to get hold of it, I'll be buying it. If anyone has heard it, what did you think?
