Black Metal Recommendations-Beyond the Obvious

im not a production whiner, so that doesnt worry me.

i also ordered that cult Nordic Metal compilation. i define ruleage.

Yes and no. Me and Nate are the only ones that still talk about it. Like he said, everyone's into doom and shit now, or buffet metal, or post rock industrial neo folk with brass instruments.

I dont know if it's the weather, or people in the forum just lost their ballsac. I can forgive footbalm...he found a girl and finally is getting his carrot wet. Erik is off being a school nerd somewhere, so he's forgiven I guess. Henrik still listens to BM, so does PJ, but they never come 'round no more.

when I can fart and break a sweat cause its so fuckinghot, black metal just doesn't fit most of the time. I've listened to a bit lately, but winter is a much better season for it.

Nate, did you ever get Abigor or Demoncy?

since you're the only one who listens to black metal anymore, other than myself, here's a blasphemous gift. you'll find it funny.

and here's two more good black metal distros that may come in handy:

 What the fuck is that song?

I got Abigor and Demoncy. I thought I mentioned that somewhere. I also got Fleurety 'Min Tid . . .' and maybe a couple others you mentioned. I can't remember right now.

Did you like those Blut Aus Nord songs?

yeah, they were pretty good. prolly better with headphones and the full album. been thinking about buying one from The End using their 13% off thingy.

that song was a capella black metal from Havohej.

Abigor, Demoncy, Fleurety...:kickass:

J., do you still listen to Mordaehoth much? Listening to Bloedwraak now and it's pretty rulin. I thought you might have traded yours though.

I have a couple of their others on tape, Liederen and Balder, and all the stuff I've heard from them is pretty darn nice. Like Taake, they've got some really GREAT guitar work and manage to work out a pretty bad ass tone when mixed with the production.

Black metal is good year round for me, listening to a lot of it lately (Aeternus, Funeral Mist, Carpathian Forest, Armagedda, Sargeist and lot of 1349.)

Glad some others like Demoncy, just put on Empire of the Fallen Angel, love this dude's vocals.

Finally, Temple of Baal is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands, their newest absolutely dominates in unimaginable ways. Fuckin' "Bleeding Through."

I have Servants Of The Beast, and I wasn't very impressed with it. I put it on my trade list. Anyone else think I should give it another listen, or is it rightfully trade fodder?

Servants is much more traditional than the follow up to it. I adore it personally, from the moment they start rokkin' it out about 1:45 into "Backstab" I was hooked, but I can see why some people may have heard enough like it to not be overly impressed. Some pretty epic stuff on there though, try "Towards Eternal Death."

Traitors to Mankind, the new one, is a natural evolution of the sound they put forth on the debut. They took that riff-based, slightly rockish sound and turned into some mad thrashing. It's a little less a part of that "orthodox" scene and much more just HEAVY FUCKING METAL. I think a lot of people here would dig it.

I've always thought about getting some Demoncy. I don't know what's held me back.

Anyone heard Wolok (no, not Vrolok) - Servum Pecus? I heard them for the first time yesterday, sounded pretty cool on first listen. I'll have to go fire that up again.

I've actually added that one to my half-assed "to check out" list based solely on the description by the label releasing it. I'll wait for the vinyl version and then see if it's worth the time. The cover was damned cool anyway.

What would you compare it to?

Nah, traded or sold their stuff. It was easier to just throw on Graveland, who Mordaehoth borrows from quite a bit. But I remember them being pretty good.

Haven't heard that one. Mostly because of the ton of negative reviews, especially compared to the unanimous positive reviews for Joined in Darkness.

btw, anyone ever heard The Black's "Priest of Satan" album? with jon nodteivtdstdvd on vox, guitars and keys?

Opeth17, have you heard Antaeus?

Sorhin?

and i remeber JayK mentioning Setherial's "Nord". heard that's a good 'un.

The atmosphere on Demoncy's "Empire" album is pretty drastically different than it is on "Joined", that's for sure, but I wouldn't say it's a lesser album and, in fact, I like it better.

Joined has a very thick, dirty, oppressive, bloody atmosphere. It's really just a sick journey for the ears, but because of that, it's rather unique and a good album. Empire is more epic and tends to feel a lot more traditional in that it has a much more icy tone and sounds more sleek. It reminds me more of Taake or early Satyricon and so the fact that it's pretty different probably upsets some people. If anyone else has it, "The Obsidian Age of Ice" would be a good sample track. I might do it later, but uploads take a year on my connection. Anyway, good band.

Antaeus I've heard and like them as well. Have De Principii and Cut Your Flesh, both worthwhile, chaotic black metal, though I don't listen to them a ton.

Haven't heard Sorhin, but they look interesting.
