Black Metal.

I revisited the Omhulda album by Grav two days back when adding some older albums on my phone and god it hits hard. It's that sort of misantrophic melancholy that I needed - I remembered the riffs so well too. It doesn't contain the frostbitten heavily distorted guitars that northern black metal bands are famous for, in fact, most of the times the guitars lack distortion completely. There's simple minor chord progressions relying on embellishments.

It's a perfect soundtrack for this failed winter. I haven't seen real winter here for ages, fuck.

Anyone heard their new one? Apparently they have something new.

Ok I just finished listening to the new Nyogthaeblisz and I consider that alone an achievment. It's downright unpleasant. I can cope with all kinds of noise and kvlt fago black metals but here they added this high pitched whistling noise inbetween all the songs and it drives me crazy. Terroristic onslaught on your ears, sure, but I won't listen to this again.

I know we're barely a month in but is there anything good already out or upcoming that's being looked forward to?

The Far Away From the Sun lineup of Sacramentum is touring the Deathfests playing that album in its entirety and is supposedly set to record a new album this year. If it is the worthy successor that FAFtS never got, it will pretty much make my year musically speaking. Your mileage may, of course, vary.

I heard about playing FaftS in its entirety, but I didn’t realise they were going to record a new album! But then Dawn have supposedly been recording a new album for like the past 10 years so who knows if it’ll ever come to light.

If it does come to light, I also hope it ends up sounding more like their debut and less like their following releases. Far away from the Sun, Obsolete Tears and Beyond All Horizons are 3 of my favourite black metal songs ever.
