Black Metal.

I think it's pretty well done. It sounds great on vinyl too. I like that the lyrics develop alongside the musical themes, and the chaos is inherently part of the structure of how the song builds, ebbs and flows. It's really good stuff.

I thought the brass instruments and clean vocals toward the end were an interesting new element. Something tells me these will be used more in the future. Just look at Fas with Mikko's tonal shouts and the concluding fanfare.

So how about some opinions on the new DsO song "Chaining the Katechon". Is anyone concerned about this progression? I quite like it, but it's even more challenging to someone's Black Metal comfort-zone than Fas. It's almost as if the band was influenced by Opeth in terms of song structure. I love the way the riffs flow with the percussion.

Opeth? Probably Obscura by Gorguts actually, as they utilize a lot of the same ideas concerning dissonance, technical and specific song structures, though they don't really do it to the level that Gorguts did on that album. Opeth doesn't sound like that.

I wasn't comparing technique, but song structure. They're songs are getting longer, more progressive technique-wise and a high dynamic range both in tempo and volume.

The beginning of the song gives me a slight Opeth vibe but this goes away for the rest of the piece.

Clouded is such a great song.

I think more people need to check out Cobalt's Eater of Birds. f you like loads of riffs, battering drums and just angry and heavy as fuck black metal, you need to check them out. I can't wait for their new release this year on Profound Lore.

Yes! I impulse-bought that record and it was fucking cool.

a) wrong thread

b) it's 1349

c) 1349 are not really second wave

d) they're not top ten material by any stretch...

I've only listened to the new DSO song a couple of times, but it sounded really good to me. Somebody, maybe MOL, pointed out that DSO really shine on their splits and EPs with their twenty minute epics

so the new wolves in the throne room EP leaked it seems

I would be interested in hearing some of the new wolves album. They sure do rip live as far as im concerned.

I was just listening to the latest Marduk album ROM:512. There is some decent songs on there, but what is everyone's opinion on this album?

The song with Alan from Primordial is the highlight for me. Nice slow wierd and doomy.
