Borknagar: For the Elements (1996-2006)

How do trolls have anything to do with Christianity? :p

And well with ghosts, I believe it's not that they can't go to heaven, but that they didn't finish something here. After that, they can finally rest in peace. I know I'm being contradictory and believe me, I've thought about this a lot of times, but I still can't find an answer. Maybe you can help me? :p

At Defiance: Well, if there's ghosts, then I can assume that that proves there's an afterlife, and if there's an afterlife, there's fear that there may be an eternal soul and punishment for life's deeds. That's just the way I see it, also maybe ghosts are just images of the past that remain to this day and aren't actual living things? Despite my thoughts about ghosts I believe that death is the final step, no afterlife or anything. I'm not sure if I'd like to have an eternal soul tbh anyways.
Trolls are supernatural creatures like demons, the Devil, God, angels, if trolls and fairies exist why can't the afformentioned deities/creatures exist as well?

BACK ON TOPIC:

Listening to 'for the elements', I'm enjoying it very much!

Hey there. First time on this board. I just received my 'For the Elements' CD, and Mr. Brun made comments about his music in the liner notes, Asgeir did some art/design (or maybe credited with original art re-done for this). I'd be happy to share more info if people want.

I just got the CD, I am listening to it now. An interesting thing from the booklet, Øystein says this about Quintessence:

"On the other hand, I must admit that I don't like the production too much. Something really bad happened during the mastering process. The mix from studio sounds way better. Sad but true"

From what I can tell, the remastering was most effective in pulling out the acoustic parts in Dauden, and the 'Origin' tracks. Nothing yet has jumped out to say 'wow, completely different sound' The tracklist was compiled by Marco Barbieri (founder of CM?), and it appears there was something more deliberate than 'lets put the best/most popular tracks together'. And that's what is most interesting to me about this: in an almost ayn randian way, a theme is actually presented and developed throughout the CD.

Is this a test? ;) Just about every song mentions 'elements'; the various elements, and human interaction with elements. The trajectory seems to be from elements in isolation from humanity, to the human being contemplating/grasping understanding of the elements.

I got mine too a few days ago. The older songs like Dauden are more clear. Colossus and The Presence is Ominous just sound like they increased the treble..to make it a bit clearer. Nothing really special on the other tracks in my opinion, just a LITTLE bit clearer.

I'll have to listen to it more to give it a grade, I enjoy the stuff from all eras of Borknagar, so I have trouble deciding who's my favorite clean singer from the eras. Garm is clearly the best harsh vocalist though, on the ST and Ulver releases anyways. The Vortex era music and Garm era connects with me a little more though than the Vintersorg era overall.

Ok. comments!....well...I don't have the album myself yet, so it's a bit hard say something about it, I'll wait until I have the album in my possession first. But the whole thing is not just a complete label thing, Öystein have been frequently doing some work for it..linernote etc. And Asgeir did the design.Actually we all said something about the past and the present, but I guess it got too vast to make into a functional product.

Well that makes it a little more purchaseable now, knowing that its not just the label trying to get more money out of us. I'm off to order it :) ...
