Buying Blind: List the bands that make the cut

Uhmmm, I am a pathological collector so if I have every other album by the band I will buy the new one, with very few exceptions.

was like that 15 years ago too ... now I don't buy shit blind ...

Opeth
Nevermore
Moonsorrow
Iced Earth
Iron Maiden
Arcturus
Orphaned Land
Satyricon

There's more, undoubtedly. A lot of it depends on my current musical "mood" as well. Lately I can't get enough of melodic black/thrash metal, viking black metal and so forth. Bands like Naglfar, Thyrfing, Falkenbach, etc. are all must listens for me right now. They all "seem" like no-duh blind purchases for me because I'm so enamored with these particular sub-genres of metal.

My rule for blind buying is if I've heard the bands past 2 or 3 consecutive albums and have enjoyed them, I'll give the next a blind buy. This can also be applied in reverse chronological order. It seems to work.

That list was huge some years ago, but as years passed it became smaller and smaller. I once had Iced Earth or Nevermore in but now..anyway 2 bands that are still in the list:
Spiritual Beggars
Shadow Gallery

Agalloch
Kayo Dot
Genesis (if PG and Hackett are back!!!)
In the Woods (fat chance of that happening)

In alphabetical order:

Angra
Evergrey
Iced Earth
Kamelot
Nevermore
Opeth
Primordial
Riverside
Symphony X
Tad Morose
Vanden Plas
...and anything Lance King sings on (just because he always seems to involve himself with great projects).

I had no idea you were that into these guys.

Satyricon rules - I love every single release, with the first 3 being the best and the latter two being highly underrated IMO - did they incorporate changes into their sound to become less black and more accessible? Yes. Do I care? No. As long as I like it - and I do.

opeth (growing progressively worse with each album though)
nevermore
symphony x
