controversial movie/book/non-metal music opinions thread

I really am pretty indifferent compared to everyone else. I've been here for many years and am relatively ignored since I stay out of personal squabbles. You do like some good things, i.e. Elliott Smith. But you should stop listing your location as Chicago when you don't actually live there. And I was kind of amused with how you misspelled my juvenile username that I've been too lazy to change.

I live there, 30 mins out of the city.

Like me... I live in the United States...just 4 hours out of the country.

^ I'd go so far as to say they're one of the most overrated bands to exist.

Anyway, Never Gonna Give You Up is actually a good, awesome, catchy song. The meme is overrated but the song is still great.

This lady is correct. :kickass:

Trailer Park Boys is a great show. Everybody here fucking hates the show, due to it's crudeness. That's what makes the show great.

I was going to go that far but the unstable airport internet shut off before I could edit it.

I said it on another music forum once and it was as if I yelled "die my pals" in harlem.

The Beatles are overrated.

.

I'm sick of seeing their albums top so many best ever lists, taste is subjective and there is no way everyone would regard Sgt. Peppers or Revolver as the best album ever, smells like peer pressure to me.

They may not suck, but I don't see what they did in music that was very monumental besides being a giant trend.

Oh, and Pet Sounds is overrated too.

The Matrix fucking sucks. Yes, the original.

Terminator 3 is a good movie. Apocalypse Now is not.

The Beatles are overrated in my opinion, but they're definitely the most directly influential band since people began recording music.

The way they wrote songs, combined influences from styles not found in the popular music spectrum with their music, and a variety of other things definitely influenced pretty much all rock music that was recorded after them.

Aside from that, they had a massive influence on the way things were recorded:

It's not that we don't like The Beatles, it's that we don't think they're as good as everyone seems to suggest they are. Like Omni said, they were immensely influential in the history of popular music and rock music recording. They were very experimental, and their ingenuity led to lots of new techniques and methods of recording. However, as far as their music goes, I feel that it's somewhat juvenile when compared to the music of their contemporaries. That's not to say it's bad music; it's just not very mature music (I believe).

The Kinks are a much less overrated band than the Beatles, and I actually like them better.
