Death Appreciation Thread

sound of perseverance and symbolic are my top favorites, followed closely by individual thought patterns. human is pretty good too, but i rarely listen to the earlier stuff.
control denied is unbearable for me because of the atrocious vocals. the fact that chuck used some riffs from the sound of perseverance also did not help.

I'm really starting to get into Symbolic. Very very solid record. I actually just learned all of Crystal Mountain and Empty Words on guitar. fun as heck to play (and my band is covering Empty Words at our show in March, hehe thats going to crush).

do any of you guys know how to play any Death songs?

I really fail to see how Warrel Dane can ever be annoying. He has one of the best voices i ever heard

I'm not saying he's always annoying, but that he can be. It's partially a wide vibrato thing and also his tendency to overuse a particular descending interval in his vocal melodies. After a while, it starts to be all I hear. He's talented, sure. And for his style of singing, he's one of the best. But all singers in that category have a tendency to be annoying, imo. It's a grand tradition from which even the heroes are not exempt (Halford, Dickinson, Dio, etc.). Again. It's just my personal opinion. I can fully appreciate that people won't agree with me.

I think it was actually the other way around - TSoP was (I believe) written after a lot of the Control Denied material was, but the Control Denied album wasn't released until after TSoP. At least, I think that's what it was.

Chorus lead from Crystal Mountain is fun to play.

wow i just downloaded the Zero Tolerance compilation which has a few unfinished tracks for what woulda been the next Control Denied record and all i can say is WOW, these woulda been some real sick tracks. it moves me to tears to know that Chuck will never be able to finish what would no doubt have been his next masterpiece.
