Death Metal

Here is my top ten for the year, in no order:

Zero Hour-Dark Deceiver
Serenity-Fallen Sanctuary
Amon Amarth-Twilight Of The Thunder God
Testament-The Formation Of Damnation
Decrepit Birth-Diminishing Between Worlds
Iced Earth-The Crucible Of Man
Melvins-Nude With Boots
Opeth-Watershed
Tyr-Land
Cynic-Traced In Air

I havent heard Tyrs or Serenitys yet but plan on it,other than that its a pretty solid ass list.

hey can anyone recommend some Tech Death Metal??

and what do people think of Necrophagist?? i dont mind them.

Cheers for your help!

The guitar playing in Necrophagist is fuckin' insane, but the song structure sucks ass. Recommendations:

Pestilence
Cryptopsy (oh, the irony)
Atheist
Cynic (almost no death metal here, but what the hell)
Theory In Practice
Lykathea Aflame
Gorguts
Psypheria

It's not death metal, it's prog metal. There are no METAL OF DEATH riffs, hardly any real aggression at all and none of the morbid feel of death metal (even prog death can have this, but they're not prog-death either).

It's not traditional death metal, but it is widely considered to be a death metal album, I know it's different, but that's what I love about it. It changed perceptions about what death metal could be.

Pestilence - Consuming Impulse
Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Gorguts - Obscura

Decrepit Birth - ... And Time Begins

Second these, forgot all about them (though I'd go for Winds of Creation instead of Nihility).

Focus itself isn't even very metal a good bit of the time, so the new album sounds very world-music-y.

World music? That alone is a big ass warning sign for me.
