The guitar playing in Necrophagist is fuckin' insane, but the song structure sucks ass. Recommendations:

Cryptopsy (oh, the irony)

Cynic (almost no death metal here, but what the hell)

I think it rules, it is far less metal than Focus though. But I still think it's a great album.

Focus itself isn't even very metal a good bit of the time, so the new album sounds very world-music-y.

It's not death metal, it's prog metal. There are no METAL OF DEATH riffs, hardly any real aggression at all and none of the morbid feel of death metal (even prog death can have this, but they're not prog-death either).

It's not traditional death metal, but it is widely considered to be a death metal album, I know it's different, but that's what I love about it. It changed perceptions about what death metal could be.

Maybe. And they're my favorite band. It's very good. But it's not really mind-blowing. Especially since it's essentially the seventh time they've released this album.

Second these, forgot all about them (though I'd go for Winds of Creation instead of Nihility).

World music? That alone is a big ass warning sign for me.
