Death Metal

Aborted were generic as a Death Metal band. And now they play crappy metalcore.

God damn I love the internet. I can read up on an album from 1993 I've never heard of, and then find it on a streaming service and listen all in the span of a few minutes.

In this case, it's Demilich's "Nespithe". I've been on a black metal kick lately but was curious from reading all the praise heaped on it and promptly shit my asshole out about three tracks in. How is this album not lauded as one of the hallmarks? Every fucking band that plays off-kilter "technical" death owes something to this one.

Also, go listen to the Timeghoul demos too. I'm not saying they're better or anything... but... it's worth your time, promise. :)

I think only by people really "in the know" when it comes to DM. I almost never hear it mentioned alongside Altars of Madness or None So Vile.

I think you may need to open your eyes for once, haha. Nespithe is praised and hyped more then both of those albums it seems. Whether or not it deserves that is a moot point.

If you're saying I need to look harder, that's just proving my point. :p

From looking around, it's one of those albums that, for those who've HEARD of it, is a classic and near-unmatched (count me in!), but in all the times I've seen lists of best death albums, it almost never pops up.

I googled "top death metal albums", got the following:

Terrorizer's list (no Demilich): http://www.amazon.com/Terrorizer-Magazine-Death-Metal-Albums/lm/R1V1SK4OEMPFNK

Noisecreep (no Demilich): http://www.noisecreep.com/2009/05/18/top-10-death-metal-debut-albums/

Metalstorm (#83!): http://www.metalstorm.net/bands/albums_top.php?album_style=Death

HailMetal (no Demilich): http://www.hailmetal.com/gate.html?name=BestOfDeath

And so on. The only times Demilich will show up anywhere appreciable is by random fans (this guy put it at #8: http://www.epinions.com/content_4087062660?sb=1).

What I'm saying is that Nespithe is fucking amazing and if you google "best death metal albums", it should ALWAYS be in the top 5. Not "almost never".

You first heard it yesterday and you're already outraged that there are "best of all time" lists that don't include it?

You're quoting terrible sites and magazines that really don't represent metalheads who've delved beyond the surface.

Nespithe would not make my top 10 death metal albums. Not saying it's not a cool album, but it is still acquired taste even for Death Metal fans. It's really not a classic album like say Altars of Madness is. Altars of Madness is extreme for the time and influential when it comes to extreme music in general.
