Death Metal

Worst vocals on any "death metal" record I've ever heard. Referring to Decapitated obviously.

Not sure I understand you. I get it if you just dont like the vocals, but it seems like you are hung up on genres here and expect a deeper growl? I mean Decapitated can barely be considered "Death Metal" nowdays. They are bordering Thrash imo, they sound like a cross of Sepultura (Territory/Roots) and Meshuggah these days.

Yea they're really not even a death metal band anymore, I agree. It's ok. POH is very 'persistent' about his death metal, which is fine. POH, out of curiosity, what modern death metal albums do you think are great/exceptional?

So why are you discussing their new album in the "death metal" thread? I can definitely agree with that description.

Well, people are talking about them here so I answer. They used to play Tech DM so is it really that hard to understand why people are? Its obviously not so easy to put a lable on the band.

Because there's enough diversity within the genre to warrant further sub-categorization. Why is this concept so difficult to fathom, especially since the point has already been made in a recent thread?

First, it's unnecessary. Second, it's not a topic that warrants lengthy discussion. The music is what matters, not the categorization. If you get a bowl of tasty spaghetti, is the deliciousness or the freshness of the tomatoes in the sauce more important? Honestly, who cares if its fucking subliminal melo-tech-thrash-death-core? Is that important in any way? No, the quality of the music matters, and the more discussions about genre there are, the more it detracts from the core principles of metal. The metal.

Is it some sort of pseudo-elitist-hipster thing? I couldn't imagine writing a song them saying "that riff is too progressive-death-thrash". Ugh. I'm going to get stoned. And listen to some death metal. Except the death metal has a melodic-core tinge so I guess I can't say I'm listening to death metal anymore.

They don't, and I need no help. I'll listen to death metal and call it death metal. And while I headbang you fucks can discuss the trite and needless sub-categorization of the bands I'm enjoying in the pure, death metal way they're intended.

They don't, and I need no help.

"I can't help you" is a figure of speech.

... And here's the thing about sub-genres, they're used to group bands that have distinct sounds. If I want something that sounds like Wormed, you can tell me to go look up Brutal Death Metal, but if you just tell me to go look up Death Metal, that's not going to help me nearly as much. Not all Death Metal is the same, not all Punk is the same, not all Rap is the same, and so on. If that's too difficult for you to understand, you're a fucking moron.

Been blasting Blood Mantra all day and it has defenitely grown, awesome album. And the vocals are better than on Carnival.

:kickass: yea, their last two albums have both grown on me big time. I've only listened to Blood Mantra once ... and surprisingly enjoyed it quite a bit.

edit:

Totally agree with what you're saying ... but rap and punk aren't subgenres.

They do serve a purpose because if he hadn't said "progressive melodic", I might have listened to it and lose time.

You win this round. Ha.

And Nader Sadek is pretty good. But it's got black metal elements so you need to start a whole new thread because it's just not straight forward enough to be death metal enough for the death metal thread. Am I doing that right? Not enough figure of speech?

But yeah, they're pretty good.
