Death Metal

Glad to hear about Oksennus getting pressed on CD. I don't give a single dusty shit about downloads, but I'll buy the fuck out of a CD. That new album is some of the most interesting DM I've heard in quite a while as well, thanks for posting that!

Entrails is good. Don't own anything from them yet, but they do play some solid Swedeath.

I'm in an unprecedented death metal mood lately and I need recs. I'm not looking for atmospheric/weird stuff like Atheist/Septic Flesh/At the Gates/etc. which is what I normally like in DM, but crushingly heavy, evil death metal with no shortage of riffs to die for.

Examples of what I'm digging lately;
Death - Leprosy
Kronos - Colossal Titan Strife
Adramelech - Psychostasia

Feel free to recommend me obvious stuff too, I'm basically a neophyte when it comes to DM.

Mordicus - Dances From Left
Sulphur Aeon - Gateways to the Antisphere (atmospheric, but not like Atheist. Still crushes)
Demilich - Nespithe
First two Malevolent Creation albums

Crimson Relic - Purgatory's Reign
Miasma - Changes
Grave Miasma - Exalted Emanation
Obliteration - Black Death Horizon

I'm not sure how familiar you are with Incantation, but crushingly heavy and evil is kinda their wheelhouse. Check out Diabolical Conquest and then the first 2.

Fuck yeah man, to me they're the bridge between Obituary and Swedeath bands like Dismember.

Well, that first album anyway, they changed their sound pretty much immediately after it. I also think Nile should get recommended here but I don't know how that will go over.

I would say at least the first two NIle albums would kinda be what he's looking for tbh. I love me some Black Seeds of Vengeance.

I mean, if he's a SUPER neophyte, then there's obviously stuff like Autopsy, Bolt Thrower, etc that could get thrown in..

Nile is too inconsistent for me to enjoy on an album basis but "Lashed to the Slave Stick" is maybe the best death metal song I've ever heard that wasn't written by The Chasm.

Also listen to Deicide's Legion bitch. I remember you liking "Dead by Dawn" in a mixtape game and Legion is superior to the s/t.

I'm going to revisit it since you keep bringing it up, but I'm not convinced that it will compare to the pure insanity of Legion. Some of the most punishing and violent rhythms ever recorded in a death metal album. Savage in every sense of the word.

Might as well be Hot Cross Buns compared to Legion.

U so clever

It won't for a majority of people but that was one of my first death metal albums so I'll always love it more than the first two Deicide records. I agree that the intensity is higher on the first two records.

Morgoth - Ressurection Absurd

Lvcifyre - The Calling Depths

you familiar with autopsy yet? they're probably the signature crushingly heavy death metal band.

also:
immolation - here in after
necrophobic - the nocturnal silence
miasma - changes
amorphis - privilege of evil
fleshcrawl - descend into the absurd

some of these might be too atmospheric for what you're looking for idk, let me know if any are spot on. i assume you know demigod's SLUMBER OF SULLEN EYES already but PSYCHOSTASIA has the same drummer. it's not exactly 'evil' but it is pretty 'kin crushing.

and yeah i was gonna mention that you liked deicide in the mixtape game.

Agreed.

I myself am very partial to In Their Darkened Shrines at the moment. The drumming on that record is absolutely psychotic.
Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka will always be my first love, even though consciously I acknowledge that Black Seeds of Vengeance is a superior album, it's a nostalgia thing. :D

fuck, reminds me how much i love 'to dream of ur'. i usually hate pretentious exoticised metal epics but that thing is fucking massive, it's like their 'triumph of death' or something. i worship 'lashed to the slave stick' above all though. i second a request for recommendations of stuff in a similar vein to that song specifically, the sheer deranged intensity of it. something like d666's 'shadow' has the same effect on me too, although i guess it's intense in a more black metally kinda way.

A few recs you may enjoy.

Molested-Blod Draum
Darkthrone-Soulside Journey
Cryptopsy-None So Vile
Lykathea Aflame-Elvenfris
Disma-Towards the Megalith
Drawn and Quartered-Hail Infernal Darkness
Demilich-Nespithe
Depravity-Silence of the Centuries
Wombbath-Internal Caustic Torments
Blackthorn-The Rotten Ways of Human Misery
Deeds of Flesh-Path of Weakening
Insision-Beneath the Folds of Flesh
Krisiun-Black Force Domain
Kataklysm-Sorcery
Mithras-Behind the Shadows Lie Madness
Intestine Baalism-An Anatomy of the Beast
Vehemence-Helping the World to See
Nauseant-ILN
Hypocrisy-Osculum Obscenum
Morbid Angel-Formulas Fatal to the Flesh

So these are kind of all over the place, from old school to brutal death. Everyone else here seemed to take the OSDM classics route, so I wanted to do something a little different, mainly because Kronos, Death, and Adramalech are all very different bands. You obviously like the classic, old school sound of Death, the melodic BDM leanings of Kronos, and the eerie, unsettling riffage of Adramalech, so I tried to come up with some albums that would kind of encapsulate all that. Some of it strays away from the "evil" sound, not a lot in the vein of Incantation or Autopsy, but it's all very solid death metal with great riffs, and evil in their own ways. Judging based on what I've seen you say you like above, I think you'll enjoy a majority of these albums.

I forgot these and I always forget Drawn & Quartered. What a killer band. I need to listen to them more.

Nice Vehemence rec. I never see anyone list that one.
