I like heavy metal music and it is the majority of what i listen too.
I also listen to some hard rock bands like soundgarden, tool.
I personally can't stand rap/punk or the vast majority of radio ga-ga but if some ppl like that and like metal good for them.
It sounds elitest and i know it's just music but their ARE people who's life is metal, they sacrifice being able to discuss j-lo's newest cd with the in crowd, they sacrifice the incrowd.
Metal is music for outsiders (not exclusivly but generally) a point which is hard to refute given teh whole fuck you, fuck the world mentality that permiates through the whole metal scene.
Metal bands the 'outsiders' together, gives them a purpose. It forms a brotherhood. it gives them something to do and to belive in. It gives them the feeling of power and when alot of them (metalheads) are powerless against alot of things (eg the pop scene, society, parents, peers) this is a reason why it speaks to them so strongly.
To continue: In this repect, it's more than just the music, it's an attitude too, and to some it's a way of life...when people take this thing taht is such an integral part of a persons make up and so strongly defines who they are and uses it as a device for creating an image then yuo can see how it can create this notion of true metal head and why some people are focused on this subject. And alos why some people are hostile towads 'posers' Particularly when the very people that use this, are at times the people and groups they are rebeling against, and this is where the nu-metal hating comes from i belive: it caters for the tastes of these very people and is fed to them on mtv and the radio "if yuo want that tuff guy image then slap a bit of limp BIZCUT on ur cd player".
It's not my place to judge but you(i) find it hard not too: My opinion is that Metal is not a fasion statement, however if people have a genuine interest in the music then so be it. i don't mind if they(anyone) listen(s) to britney spears and the fuckin goo goo dolls as well as nile, that's their tastes.
{it might be a bit over the top but i am jsut illustrating a point. when i say gives a feeling of power, don't take it the wrong way: but for instance when a kick arse riff comes on you feel like you can do anything. I'm not meaning to imply that metalheads are generally loosers who have to do what mummy and daddy say either just using some examples.
i'm also generalising here but there is no denying it....of course i don't mean it is exclusive, anyone can listen to metal, i'm trying to point out why this topic exists.}
I in no way expect people to agree with my points of veiw, they are jsut that, my point of view.
