Doom Metal

Anyway, few more from me, Death Delirium stole a lot of my favourite bands though, Candlemass are brilliant and Katatonia, My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost and Daylight Dies (*disclaimer* I know they are a tad emo, get over it) are all some of my favourite bands. Draconian I would easily rate in my top five, you need to give these guys a listen if you like female vocals in metal and/or doom/death, Opeth.

Anyway, have not seen these mentioned so,

Type O Negative: Hardly a surprise coming from my Avatar and sig. but when it comes to satire and manipulation these guys are gods amongst (depressed) men

Anathema: Look for their ealier work, dont touch their later alt-rock crap. They are usually compared, and rated below, similar bands from the same area and time period such as Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride but could hold their own with both of them.

Mael Mordha: Folk/Doom? Whatever it is it works, chilling stuff.

The Prophecy: The best thing to come out of England since the last big English doom band. Its stirring and bleak, a tad progressive and a breath of dank air. I am nuts for the vocals, just check out the song "Rivers".

Celtic Frost: I think these guys could get a mention in a recommendation thread for black metal, death metal and thrash metal as well. I dont need to say much about these guys.

Yes. Great band. The only reason I didn't mention them, is because this thread is seems to be geared towards extreme doom, and Mael Mordha are trad doom with folk elements. It seems than any band from Ireland is always great.

Any doom band is fine, the title of the thread is just Doom. Still, I do not consider "gothic" bands like Lacuna Coil or Forever Slave Doom Metal, and I dont think many people on these forums would.

Not sure there is much exactly like Saturnus, they have a very deep quality that is hard to replicate. However there ARE tons of Death/Doom bands that play the same style, most of them have been mentioned so far.

Keen of the crow, morgion, and Reverend Bizarre totally crush too. I just got in RB and am so disappointed with their disbanding. In the Rectory is one of the best doom albums ever! Does anyone know how I can get my hands on any of their other projects like Mr. Velcro Fastener, The Puritan or Wehrwolf lodge?

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned Agalloch or Novembers Doom... they're a bit on the periphery of the genre but both bands kick ass. I would definitely suggest getting Agalloch's latest release, Ashes Against The Grain. It is just so melancholy and beautiful...

all earlyer Wino is essintial doom, those bands being The Obsessed and Saint Vitus, after reforming The Obsessed he eventually formed Spirit Caravan. Unforseen circimstances caused the demise of Spirit Caravan. All of which were truly great doom bands in their own right. His last true venture into doom is when he joined Place of Skulls for the Within Vision album. This new band The Hidden Hand has a huge doom influence but it's not at all constrained by the confines of pure doom.

I've not really explored the genre as a whole, because to be honest it bores me. I do, however, like Doom/Death, my favorite bang being Swallow the Sun. If you don't you of them, I do believe they have a myspace. Check it out.
