Doom Metal

I disagree, the self-titled is easily the second weakest, behind only Dactylis Glomerata. Chapter VI is absolutely fabulous and extremely underrated, From The 13th Sun is similarly great with its bludgeoning Sabbathy riffs, and the newest one is really a breath of fresh air for a band I believed had grown stagnant. Although I still attest that I'm not overly fond of Lowe's performing of old songs.

I agree that Chapter VI is a fantastic album, so I probably should have said late 90's instead of just 90's. King Of The Grey Islands was ok, some pretty decent songs but overall I think the self-titled was just a bit more consistent. But to be honest, it's not too often that I play either of them in favour of Epicus or Tales.

I have not listened to the self titled in a while, but I remember being pretty underwhelmed. I may have to go back and give it another try.

i think i like chapter vi more than ancient dreams
This is definitely the truth. I think Ancient Dreams is easily the worst of the first four.

I rate them in this order I think:

Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Nightfall
Tales of Creation
Chapter VI
Ancient Dreams
From the 13th Sun
King of the Grey Island
Candlemass
Dactylis Glomerata

Anyone care to rate their albums? I'm looking at you Dodens and TIACN.

Let me point out beforehand that I haven't heard any of the material from Chapter VI or Dactlyis Glomerata.

Nightfall
Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Ancient Dreams
Tales of Creation
King of the Grey Islands
Candlemass
From the 13th Sun

My one complaint about Candlemass is that I feel their albums tend to drag in the middle. They all start off strong, but with the exception of Nightfall, they all have weaker tracks in the middle. Even on EDM, I'm not too crazy about Crystal Ball (still good, just not great) and I usually skip Under the Oak. I don't know what it is about that song, but sometimes I really like it, but usually I just think it's boring. Same goes for the ToC version of it.

AD over ToC was a tough choice, but I ranked them as I did mostly because of Mirror, Mirror and The Bells of Acheron. Really, the more I think about it the more I think I should flip them around... ToC is more consistent and at it's weakest it's still ok, whereas AD has some real shit on it (Incarnation of Evil. What the fucking hell?), but the good parts are really good.

As far as the two newer ones go, KotGI starts out very strong, then hits a snag at Demonia 6 and Destroyer. Man of Shadows is also just ok. Then it gets good again. The s/t... it's good, bit nothing really great. Black Dwarf, Witches and The Day and the Night are the best songs.

From the 13th Sun is fine, but it's not what I what I want to hear when I listen to Candlemass.

Has anyone heard the new Funeral - From The Light Does The Shadow?
I liked From These Wounds but i'm not sure about this one yet. His vocals are quite strange.

Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Nightfall
Tales of Creation
Chapter VI
Ancient Dreams
From the 13th Sun
King of the Grey Island
Candlemass
Dactylis Glomerata

I echo this, except that I consider Ancient Dreams and Chapter VI pretty even, if not Ancient Dreams slightly higher. Chapter VI is more consistent, but Ancient Dreams has better individual songs.

Hi could anyone point me to the latest Revbiz single download? I know Goddess of Doom itself, but I'm really interested in the Burzum cover because that's like fucking something I'd like to hear.

Onder: why not just get Harbinger of Metal instead and you get lots of other good Revbiz songs including Dunkelheit (btw what do you mean by "they got the title wrong, Omni? I don't follow :p).

Well I'm a fucking dementcretin for not knowing it's there. Thank you.

Do you have it?

No, I don't. It can't be hard to download it, though.

The song popularly called "Dunkelheit" is entitled "Burzum" according to the booklet included with Filosofem, and is the only song title listed with the lyrics for the album. Varg stated in an interview that the only reason the German titles are on the back of the album is because the label was based out of Germany. The German titles are alternate versions of the real song titles, which are written in Norwegian and English. Then again, maybe you already knew this.

How can the real title have been 'Burzum' when the real titles were apparently written in Norwegian and English LOL?! ;) ;) :D

(yes I knew about it, just forgot it. I'm not sure if I agree though, that they got the title wrong, or well, if you are nit picking they did but that's not a big deal anyway).

Edit: "high repute"? Didn't know about that. :kickass:

Well, what I meant was that it isn't a big deal that Revbiz choose the title that actually is on the back cover of the album instead of what it was supposed to be. It is a much bigger deal that the label choose the wrong title obviously.
