Doom Metal

The proliferation of the title that is most often recognized is part of the 'deal' though.

Ooooh yeah, if you don't like this you're a flaming homosexual. You might as well stop listening to metal this instant and turn on your favorite Will and Grace episode.

I've seen Grand Magus twice live but I've never gotten around getting their albums or really checking them out seriously. I don't know why, especially when everyone is praising their new album.

Yeah I really liked them, atleast the first time I saw them. It was on SRF04(I think?) and they were the only doom band there I think so that made them seen extra good. :p
The other time I saw them they opened for Electric Wizard and Cathedral which made them seem not as good, but they put on a good show for sure.

Usually i find metal trios to be kinda disappointing live since mostly they add a second guitar and such on their records which gets lost live.

Just ordered Candlemass - Tales of Creation. I am sorely lacking in my doom collection, and sorely delinquent in my doom listening habits. Maybe the two are related. The two are related. Good classic doom is orgasmic.

It didn't take long, but Candlemass has swiftly dethroned Reverend Bizarre and Pentagram as my all time favorite Doom Metal band.

I wouldn't call them operatic in the least, but then again I know what real opera sounds like.

I'm going to assume that you don't know what a traditional operatic voice type or singing style sounds like, and that you're referring exclusively to classical opera singers.

Yes, that's all I'm familiar with. And even then it's not my favorite type of classical music.

I just don't see Johan or Messiah playing Figaro. Hehe.

Thergothon, "Stream From the Heavens"

Decent album, or no? I haven't listened to much funeral doom, but I'm interested in checking these guys out.

That's the second best funeral doom album ever made, after Stormcrowfleet, and the only two that really matter, imo.

Actually it is the best funeral doom album ever made right before Stormcrowfleet which only comes second! :p

But yeah, it is pretty much more than decent.

Hadn't heard this before. This is pretty much the first funeral doom album I've heard that actually sounds good. :0
