Doom Metal

Most people here seem to like a handful of Funeral Doom albums and then simply write everything else off as redundant, which simply just isn't the case.

Esoteric, Ahab, 1000 funerals, Ataraxie, Doom:VS (first album), Pantheist, Remembrance, Nortt, Shape of Despair, Monolithe, Necare, Wormphlegm, just to mention are few, are all great bands which get overlooked far too often.

If by overlooked you mean painfully average then I agree with you.

Funeral--Tragedies. Some say they started "funeral" doom. I don't know but, Skepticism, Thergothen and Funeral set some standards. Another excellent band is Mar de Grises from Chile. Most refer to then as "progressive" doom, if their is such a thing. I have their disc The Tatterdemalion Express (debut) and it is awesome with superb production. Their new one is called Draining the Waterheart, and most doom folk love it.

skepticism is all you need for funeral doom. the rest just doesn't compare. Funeral got good with From These Wounds.

I like some doom metal... Electric Wizard is probably one of my favorite bands ever... Dopethrone and Let Us Prey caress my happy place quite a bit.

Other than that... I delve into the occasional death/doom (I primarily listen to death metal)

And... November's Doom, Swallow the Sun, My Dying Bride, and Katatonia's Brave Murder Day are some of my favorites. I also want to give a special mention to Acid Witch's first full length, Witchtanic Hellucinations. I cant help but whore it. It's an absolutely perfect trip into psych Death/Doom.

the few EW albums ive heard didnt do much for me. and ramesses is not good either.

Best Doom of 2009: Revelation - Release

Ereb Altor and Grand Magus deserve a mention.

Yeah, I must admit I enjoy Electric Wizard quite a bit. Dopethrone is pretty close to a masterpiece.

have yet to give electric wizard a listen, what would you guys recommend?
