Pretty much all conquering armies did, not just the Vikings. Until relatively recently, women were considered part of the spoils of war.

I don't know which tribe of Vikings you're refering to, but like Chris said it happened with most pirates and armies. But it's been recorded that it was usually just the Kings that raped the lower class women, within the Viking culture... and that if a man were to rape a woman of his status (and of course higher) it meant suicide---- Because she would not let him get away with it. She would either kill him or hurt him in some terrible way. I've read that this was a well- known fact.

For example, and this is supposedly a true story, this one man(I forget his name sorry) was being invaded by the king's troops upon his home and he ran out of bows to shoot his arrows at the oncoming group. He told his wife he needed her hair to re-string the bows and she refused to let him have it. You know why? He hit her three years before that, and she never forgot it. The troops came, captured him, and killed him. It was well known in this time that to hurt a woman, especially your wife, was unforgivable. And no one cared if she killed you, or, like that man's wife, let you die.

Also, the Vikings did not think of Viking women as below them, or inferior in any way. (I dont' know about women of other cultures.. though I'm sure they thought certain races altogether were below them) Viking women were strong and stubborn just like the men and they both knew they were equal, albeit different.

Rape is usually used as an act of power... not whether you can ''get laid or not". I don't know of many cases of men raping simply because they're horny.

Anyway, a good example of a woman raping a man is in the movie 40 Days and 40 Nights (horrible movie, I know) when Hartnett's character is trying to hold out for this girl for 40 days and on the second to last day he like chains himself or something so he can't masturbate, and goes to sleep. However, his ex girlfriend comes in and starts to have sex with him. Hartnett's character thinks that it's his girlfriend and goes along with it, until she turns the lights on and he sees that it's his ex and realized that she decieved him, and raped him.

Though of course no one in the movie acknowledges that he'd been raped. But that's Hollywood for you!
