I was wondering if you guys could recommend to my any MUST HAVE death metal classics. I've finally opened myself up to the genre and would love to find some more quality stuff as the likes of Bloodbath, Blood Red Throne, Vehemence etc.

What > I < think are great quality bands: (Often earlier stuff they made)
Death, Carcass, Morbid Angel, Aborted, Grave, Entombed, Dismember, Deicide,
Infestdead.

Plus a few newer bands like, Incapacity, The Forsaken, Myrkskog...maybe more..

I don`t like fast brutal death metal if they can`t play it very well, not just faster than fukin fast and death metal screams from hell.

My must have list:

Morbid Angel: Altars of madness
Grave: Soulless
Entombed: Clandestine
Decide: Once upon the cross
Death: Human
Carcass: Heartwork
Dismember: like an ever flow...and indecent...

Well...a few of them anyway.

:headbang:

Isn't Heartwork considered grind? I'll give the Dismember and Morbid Angel records a spin first... I've heard alot of Morbid Angel in the past, but never really got INTO them... but yeah, it should be good, they seem pretty revered in the scene.

Carcass changed style alot after the first albums...Heartwork is more deathmetal/trash. Heavier and not fast grind. More like normal paced death metal.

yeah, definatly, still, Heartwork is a must have album.

Back to Morbid angel, i've only heard the two songs

Hatework
Where the slime live

Anyone suggest anything else to me?

Oh, and Moonlapse, check out some Necrophagist, great band. Onset of Putfrefaction is awesome, for a sample, checkout the song Extreme Unction. Also, Lykathea Aflame-Bringer of Elvenefris flame.

cryptopsy - and then is passes (i think thats what it is)

morbid angel - every single morbid angel album is great...my fav being formulas

decapitated - their second one

opeth is pretty good too, you should check them out...hahaha just kidding, i knew we were on their forum the whole time.

Amorphis - The Karelian Isthmus
Arghoslent - Incorrigbile Bigotry / Arsenal of Glory
At the Gates - TRITSIO / WFIKTB / Slaughter of the Soul
Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Eucharist - A Velvet Creation
Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes
Necrophobic - The Nocturnal Silence
Death - All (except TSOP, which is good, not essential)
Psycroptic - Sceptre of the Ancients
Cynic - Focus
Vader - The Ultimate Incantation
Amon Amarth - Once Sent from a Golden Hall
Decapitated - Nihility / Winds of Creation
Destroyer 666 - Phoenix Rising / Unchain the Wolves (not dm specifically, more blackened thrash, but I guarantee a lack of disappointment)
Sepultura - Morbid Visions
Entombed - LHP
In Flames -I assume you have / know the good stuff here, as everyone does
The Chasm - Deathcult for Eternity, Conjuration of the Spectral Empire, Spell of Retribution
Sentenced - North from Here
Cryptopsy - None So Vile
Immortal - Pure Holocaust (partially black metal though)
Incantation - Onward to Golgotha
Immolation - Close to a World Below
Obituary - Cause of Death

That should get you started. :)

Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes
Resurrection - Embalmed Existence

Do you guys have some kind of beef with The Negation?

The Negation is good...but imo (and in probably alot of other people's opinions) it dosen't come close to the classic that is Winds of Creation or the subsequential Nihility. I liked the old schoolness of it though...kinda like early Massacre with some beating riffs.

Necrophobic "The nocturnal silence" is one of the best albums ever made.

(But i didn`t acutally count it as a pure death metal album)

While there's quite a bit of melody in it...but I'd say for the time it was pretty pure. The album kinda rips your face off like how most death metal should. To say the least, it definitely influenced some of the more melodic swedish death acts that followed.
