Favorite Epic songs??

I haven't heard any of those.

Shamefully, I will put my hands up and say I haven't either. But it's cool, because I now have a whole list of songs in front of me that are more than likely to be worth checking out, so I will do so. Cheers, NFU, and to everybody else who has recommended in this thread. I LOVE epic music.

Also, I always think of 'High Hopes' by Pink Floyd as a pretty epic song.

Here's a guilty pleasure:

Iced Earth - Dante's Inferno

Maiden Epics:

Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Alexander the Great
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Ghost of the Navigator
Paschendale

erm.....from what i understand epic means heroic, so if we go by that definition:

Led Zeppelin - Battle Of Evermore / Achilles Last Stand

If we take it in the sense that it is music "surpassing the ordinary in scope or in size" then (an odd mix):

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb / Echoes / One Of These Days
Opeth - BWP / The Moor
Faith No More - The Real Thing
Metallica - Orion
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin
Nevermore - This Godless Endeavour / Dreaming Neon Black
Type O Negative - World Coming Down / Wolf Moon / Anesthesia
Black Sabbath - Spiral Architect
Vangelis - Bladerunner
My Dying Bride - Crown Of Sympathy
LTJ Bukem - Music / Demons Theme
The Aphex Twin - Heliopsphan
The Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea
Fear Factory - Resurrection

Why would you consider Dante's Inferno a guilty pleasure? It's a fucking great song. Some killer thrash riffs imo iyo.

close to the edge (i get up i get down, cmon it doesnt get any better)
enslaved - reogenesis (the end is rediculously epic imo)

i'd say 'carry' more so than 'the beginning...', especially the volume swells at the start. really nice stuff. but basically that whole album yeah

That would be a very good choice as well. I think Carry is the song the yelling vocals work best with. And the drums sound incredible!

it doesnt get more guilty than iced earth. unless its a band that metal wrath also enjoys avidly. i.e. thy serpent or j-power metal bands.

imo earlier iced earth (mainly night of the stormrider and especially burnt offerings) are not guilty pleasures. good albums

Emperor - Towards the pantheon (the rare instance where I'll actually concede that shit production aids a song)

Zyklon - Zycloned (just for that industrial middle section..)
Zyklon - An Eclectic Manner

Decapitated - Poem about an Old Prison Man (3:03.. fuckin love that part)

Blut Aus Nord - Procession of the Dead Clowns

Raison D'etre - The Empty Hallows

Machinae Supremacy - Endgame

Meshuggah - Elastic (not sure if I'd call it epic... but it has a very... powerful and somewhat uplifting vibe to it.. )
