i'm not sure OUT OF THE ABYSS is even in my top 10 manilla road albums tbh. two great songs toward the back end but the rest i could mostly take or leave. you should check out MYSTIFICATION which is basically the better version of that record (and clearly the second best of their '80s material imo).

kinda regretting not including DARK QUARTERER atm

Don't like Return of the Old Ones? That's one of very few Manilla Road songs I would call great.

that's one of the better ones but i don't like it that much, 'war in heaven' and 'helicon' are the ones i would call great. i'm pretty picky with manilla road though (sounds like you are too).

I like pretty much every song on that album. Mystification would be my third or fourth favorite MR, with Gates of Fire being its contender for third place.

it's pretty ace. there's some fat here and there but it's such an atmospheric and emotionally charged slow burn, leaps and bounds from the hawkwind-derived noodling of what was essentially the previous record (although the closer of that is great too). could be shelton's best vocal performance as well. i get why folks who prefer manilla road's more uptempo stuff might find it boring though.

Combining traditional metal and doom then not listing a single doom metal album is pretty shitty of you. I get that you dont like doom metal and whatever and the thread wouldnt have meant much to you but a lot of motherfuckers here do and youre taking it away from them.

Too bad.

EDIT: Okay, I fixed it. Is that better?

I'd still like an explanation on how not listing a doom metal album takes away from others who have 80% of their listing as doom

Basically, after I take a break once Trad is done, I will do the following:

-Redux of the death metal thread. I don't feel I did that one correctly and was a trial run. Now that I have a decent system I'm gonna try it again and probably get different results
-'Other' list, which will essentially cover anything not covered in the first 4 sets (so folk, power, etc)

Can we do the 'other' list first? That sounds like it might end up being the most fun/interesting mix of these. How are we going to compare symphonic power metal bands to death/doom bands and etc. Sounds fun. While death metal redux has a chance to end up being the exact same results.
