Growing my hair out

Yeah, I'm going to make an honest attempt this time. My hair is naturally thin and wavy so it's going to be a bitch. I grew my hair out shoulder length in high school and it looked like a complete disaster for the most part, but I also didn't take very good care of it.

I know it's at least possible since women with naturally thin hair manage to do it. There's next to nothing on the internet about male strategies, though, and most sites just say to keep it short. Any advice?

You're lucky you have thin hair for this. Thick hair is much, much harder to grow out. I just end up with a semi-jewfro if I grow my hair for too long.

Just grow a beard, it's easier and still very metal.

My hair is super thick so I don't have any advice for thin hair, but in general the hardest part of growing out your hair is surviving the awkward middle phase where it's bound to look lame. Once you get past that you're good.

Considering your hair is somewhat similar to mine (minus the really tight curls of yours, IIRC), how long did it take for your hair to finally like, "drop", instead of just getting bigger?

I've heard nothing but the complete opposite. I don't think I'm genetically capable of growing a beard -- I've tried before.

Then whoever telling you that is wrong. With thin hair, it usually just grows downwards, but with thick hair, it has a tendency to "go up" instead of just growing downwards. I know first hand, as I have extremely thick, wavy hair.

Thick hair is good, but not if you want to grow it long or have a healthy scalp.

But you have thick curly hair right? I don't think that applies to thick hair in general. Everyone I know who has successfully grown out a mane has thick hair.

Growing thin hair out weighs down the strands, drawing attention to the fact that it's thin.

Thick curly hair here...grew it out for six years and all I got was a huge jewfro and a giant pain in my ass... never growing my hair out again

Same. Thick curly hair, alway gets stuck with a jewfro that seems to stop gowing after a certain point. Ugh. If anyone could provide tips for helping hair grow after that point that would be nice thanks.

Yep.
