Guitar Player's Thread

Yeah, it is okay. As long as you aren't breaking strings or the tension is too tight. Three springs seems ideal in my opinion. I know guy who calls anyone a pussy if they don't play with 4 springs, 11 gauge or higher strings, and plays a stratocaster in E standard

So I spent much of today procrastinating but I did learn all the new bodom cover songs  They are all fun to play, except for War Inside My Head (boring).

And while I am still typing, I bought a dimarzio x2n. Gonna install it right when it comes :D

Alright, thanks Mick. My bridge is all fucked up right now though. I can't get the 4th spring on there and I messed up one of the screws that tighten the springs by using the wrong screw driver. I think I actually need to take into a guitar tech :erk:

I'm using 3 springs for my 10 - 52 in D standard. Holy shit do Ernie Ball strings suck ass though. They have like no protective coating on them at all, so they start to rust like the same day you get them. Fuck those cuntbag strings, DR and Dunlop are way better imo.

Really? I have a set of Ernie Ball 10-52's and a 10-46 on two of my guitars here, and i've had them on for like 2 weeks now, no rust or degradation at all here :S

And what do you mean protective coating, like Elixir? Elixirs are gay.

Yeah, like elixir sorta, every string company puts some sort of thin coating on their strings usually. I've had my ernie ball strings on about 2 weeks as well, maybe 3, but either way, they're failing me :(. I used to use them when I first started playing but stopped just because of that =/

Everytime I pick up my guitar to play I have to spend a good 2 minutes wiping off all the strings.

I dunno, ive used DR SIT D'addario and Ernie ball regularly now, neitehr of which ive found to have any "coating", certianly cant tell the difference between EB's and the others in terms of if it has a coating. But shit like Elixir i cannot stand, bought it once and literally ripped them off and threw them away, cant do it, hated it
Maybe its all in my head, but I, at least cant stand coating on my strings, of the "nanoweb" kind and all that.

I'm not a big fan of DR strings, right now I just use GHS guitar boomers 46 - 10.
They're pretty decent and they cost a lot less where I live cause of the recession.

I have had them for about 2 months now, a set of 11-54 and 12-56, doesn't look rusted. Play great, sound great.

This is the only brand that haven't broken on me as fast as the other brands i've tried.

I tried GHS twice, both time they broke within 10 minutes, lol

+1

Elixir's are gay as fuck. You know when you have eaten potato chips, or something with fat in it, then you pick up your guitar and play?

That's what Elixir feels like.

I only really use D'Addario and Ernie Ball 10-52s, they're both really good except the D'Addarios often snap during installation and the Ernie Balls lose their awesome new string winrar-ness a fair bit faster IMO.

The same thing happened to me in early July. It seems like Ernie Ball made some "bad" packs of strings, you're just unlucky and bought one of those. I bought a few other packs since July and everything is alright. (As it was before!)

Also, always wipe your strings once you've finished playing and don't forget to clean your hands before playing too.
