Guitar Player's Thread

DJ Deepthroat??:lol: you gotta be kidding.
you guys remind me of Erathma in the intro (all that panning of the guitars and the general rhythm) but with better guitar-writing. And I like that you guys use synths..takes away that -core edge to it, not that you care of course :p

edit: so after listening to it the 2nd time, I think I really like it. I love the darkness that the synths bring to it. Drums are really nice too.

Well it's down to personal preference. I hate the over distorted sound of some bands and the GP-1000 has the clarity and natural dryness and that lovely "awww" sound when you palm mute hard, like in the riff in Sinergy's "Wake Up In Hell".

And to anyone taking part in the jam, check out all the BT's posted so far, lets get some feedback in here!

Yeah i understand that. I can agree on that the preamp is VEEEEEEEEEERY clear but since im not really a shredder or anything like that i guess im more concerned on a chunky and heavy riff tone.

About the BT's i had suggested 2 some while ago but no one commented them:lol: Could be they are not very well fit to solo over. I like both but the metalcore one is my favorite. It has really nice riffs...especially that "intro riff" which comes up continously. The keys give it a nice feel.

2 ideas on backing tracks. Found these 2 nice sounding ones :)

http://www.sendspace.com/file/bxbf8d It was named metalcore jam BT but IMO it sounds very mixed at many styles and nice. Possible to solo over.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/jf7abp This was named Mob Man. A more classic style of metal BT. Very Cool IMO. I am more fan of the "metalcore" BT.

Just snatched those off a site i don't remember...

I think clarity is just as important in lead playing as in riffing and playing full chords. If not more :p

And chunkyness and heavyness sounds best with a tight and clear tone imo. Mesa Marks are brilliant for that!

@ Mitch: (edit) Mark Moore > Technical Difficulties > 02.

@ Earth Breather: That sounds heavy! I love those blackouts!! :kickass:

Which is your favorite Malmsteen song?

Probably Far Beyond the Sun or Forever Is A long Time. Not sure though; there are too many to mention.

If you're interested, email the seller asking for US shipment, even if it says US only, they will send to us, sometimes. My new gtr said USA BIDDERS ONLY!!!, I emailed him and asked to ship to me and he said yes...

Almost missed this. Thanks very much, but I'm having trouble affording things at current and it wouldn't be wise to buy from the US with the current exchange rate, at least imo its not economical. Which reminds me:

FS: 2006 GIBSON EXPLORER 76' Reissue Ebony w/ OHSC

MINT condition, barely played due to the Ibanez twins. Sounds warm and chunky. Asking £630 ONO + Shipping. More info/pics - just ask.

tell me about it...:cry::cry::cry:

I am in love with the TDs backing track, oh man, lets use this one! so many cool ideas over this.

I'm a total noob when it's time to practice. Mitch uploaded a 'Technique Builders' .RAR file few weeks ago but it seems that I need some kind of 'practice schedule' with goals. Actually when you start practicing and concentrating on your play after having played for few years but never practiced, you don't really know how it works.
I usually loose my motivation while practicing because I feel useless. I don't know if it's because of the first time I practice or if it's the same even for advanced players who try to play harder things. I also don't know if when your able to play fast and keep on practicing it's the same thing. To me, being able to play 'fast' and 'clean" is a very big step and I don't want to stay at the same level for years.

you should have fun practicing. I find learning new licks fun, but just practicing up and down scales boring.
Therefore my practice schedule consists og awesome riffs, and awesome licks. :p

And also, if you practice slowly for a long time, what might seem fast now, seems "normal" later. I am by no means near Alexi levels of speed, but I am app. where I want to be - better technique will come with time I know - and I look forward to it, I am not disappointed in not being that good. Because I notice myself getting better every week.

And being able to play fast (or semi-fast, Paul Gilbert fast doesn't come like that), if you've already got the basics down, won't take you years. The more you play them, the better you can hear your own mistakes.

Yes, I understand. But everytime I practice, after some minutes I start improvising and stop 'practicing'. I can't keep on practicing...
