Guitar Player's Thread

Speaking of Iced Earthy stuff..

Check out the myspace of my old band from when I was like 17..
Apparently the other guitarist just posted a remixed version of one of our cooler songs;
"Fading of The Light"

http://www.myspace.com/aegeanmetal

We had some really cool songs, unfortunately just the attitudes of some members led to our downfall...

Cool live video of that song too:
I forgot how fucking crazy our little jew drummer was haha

It's cool, but that pricetag is isn't.

EDIT: I realized it was in AUS dollar, making it ~2400 Us dollar.

But it's not a good price either

Well, no not really! :p Atleast it's not like the OMGALEXIESP price...like 2200€.
This one is way more suitable. They are supposedly of such high quality too that i can't really say 1700€ is shooting way over it.

Started scalloping the strat neck.

Bought a JE1500.

Buying parts + PCB board for Je1000 clone.

The JE1500 seems cool-

Answer:
The Spectrum was (as Bacon said in his book) Charvel's answer to fusing modern and vintage characteristics in one guitar. The active circuitry was referred to as Jackson's JE-1500 system. The pickups themselves (J-200's) are not active, they are wired directly to the circuit board and that is what provides the boost. (EMG's have the preamp built directly into the pickup) This system was most popular on Jackson's Warrior and Fusion guitars of the early 90's. When engaged, it acts as an envelope filter very similar to like having a wah-wah knob built into the guitar. I am not entirely familiar with the Spectrum, but I believe there is a 3 way mini toggle (the Warrior and Fusion had a 2 way toggle) which can be set for the envelope, standard active control (in which the second knob controls mid boost, not really the tone), and a kill switch, which silences the guitar. So, to answer the question, when the envelope filter is not engaged, the second knob acts as a mid boost control, allowing you to select a mid range frequency and exploit it. Those guitars were made with poplar bodies, maple necks, choice of maple or rosewood 22 fret boards, reverse headstocks, 3 Jackson J-200 single coils, the active circuitry, and a Schaller tremelo with the Charvel logo. The necks were all bolt on and the finishes were very loud (fluorescent orange, blue, seafoam green, desert crackle, etc.) There are a variety of sites on the web showing the history of Charvels and Jacksons, my favorite being Larry Langell's: http://www.charveljacksonclassics.com

By the way, question of English vocabulary, I never know which of those are called triplets:

Both are 3 notes per beat but the first ones each last 1/3 of beat and the second ones are 16th-16th-8th notes. And how do you call 6 notes per beat?

The first ine is triplets, with the the 3 below the notes. The second pattern is known as galloping, Iron Maiden use it a LOT

Thank you, I was confused about that.

Oh and by the way, the exam session is now finished and I've just ordered an M-Audio fast track USB for my sister and Sennheiser EH-350 headphones for myself. Digital Village (UK) have crazy low prices!

yeah, I doubt many of us can play those triplets that tightly. which Sylosis song are you working on?

Teras. I learnt it the day after Earth Breather posted the video, I didnt' actually check Josh's or your links when you posted them because I only browsed quickly, but damn that song is awesome.

I can do all of it except the fucking sweep lead and the middle bit with the fast picking. I'm sooo out of shape.

And BLEED has gotta be one of those songs that no one can play properly too...

@Mystique & Warheart: I've tabbed some parts of "Teras", actually the ones he shows in a video. I'm not sure of the chord at the 21nd bar though.

That's pretty much the same as the tab I used. I was gonna learn it by ear, but I was feeling lazy so I looked one up online and learnt most of it.

Gheyyyyy. :erk:

speaking of shug, i listened to the entire catch-33 album in french today from start to finish and the bell rang when there was 12 seconds left on Sum. Proudest moment of my life.

Fuck playing bleed, I wanna know how people can memorize that shit

like the second verse part? (i dont know what the hell it is), right after the little one guitar break riff by itself.
After that it gets so random

6 notes per beat = sextuplets.

honestly, no other band beats meshuggah in terms of their rhythm stuff.

at first I was hesitant to actually get any albums by them cuz I think the vocals are way too monotone to tolerate. but I want to get one of their albums now. Any suggestions which one I should start with?
